31. The final frontier of July. I can't believe it. I really can't. Um, so Nick, you mentioned something about the water in uh and the drought. Um, are we easing up a little bit?

Uh as a matter of fact, we are. Grand Shen Water and Sewer Authority will lift its drought management plan starting tomorrow after customers reduced water use during the peak hours. If you remember, we're allowed like 8,000 gallons, you know, before they start charging a little extra. They dropped that to six because we were in that drought. But the recent rainfall uh and uh by the way, that's Ori County, Marion, and Dillon counties. Uh the recent rainfall and also customers did a really good job. Conservation efforts helped lower the water demand while maintaining reliable water water service and fire protection. So beginning tomorrow, uh they will uh lift that back up to the usual 8,000 gallons per home.

Oh, we are, but but we've had some rain. We've had some rain, and we got some more on the way, they're saying so. Uh let's see. They talked a little bit more about this. They said, hold on. While we're encouraged by the progress, we ask everyone to continue to be mindful of the irrigation patterns and conservation practices until conditions approve. Like you said, we're not out of the swamp yet, if you will. Uh customers who need to irrigate should do so outside uh the hours of 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and avoid irrigating on Mondays. Odd house numbers should irrigate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while even should do Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. So it's a it's a it's a sign, it's a good sign. We're moving past you know the job thing. And like I said, with more rain on the way, that's all good news.

All right. I was reading um this is unbelievable how this woman was sitting on her back porch having her coffee when um a copperhead snake bit her. Yes. And she said it was a sharp shearing sensation like being shot. Um she went to urgent care, then she had to go to the Merle's Inlet emergency room, and then finally to the Grand Strand Medical Center, the only facility that had anti-venom. Uh, she says it was a few hours before I got my anti-venom, which was absolutely terrifying and horrifying. You sp spend your whole time thinking, I'm gonna lose this hand, I'm gonna lose this finger, I'm gonna, you know. Um, so it says here that um that she is a bass player for a band. So she was fearing losing her finger, and that would be overwhelming. Unbelievable, right? Goofy footers is the band that she plays in. Uh it says here that the attending emergency medicine physician, doctor of director of toxicology, um, says that her problem, uh, her experience was not uncommon. Copperheads are the most venomous steak, uh most common venomous venomous snake. Apparently I'm having trouble speaking. Um, and he has treated two steak bites himself the week of this report. He says it's pretty regular. And they're up twenty percent. Uh he also noted that some of them are just dry bites, meaning no venom was injected. That's scary, huh? Says, um he advised against applying a tourniquet or attempting to suck out the venom, or applying ice, or heat, or any other old wives' tail remedies.

Because that's usually I mean, they don't take you to urgent care. EMS around the area knows that there's only one place that has Well, I'll tell you why people don't call an ambulance because it costs thousands of dollars. And uh now Yeah, because that's what happens. You it's a difference between a $35,000 bill or a ten thousand dollar bill. I mean, that's just for a normal situation that you might the emergency room is so expensive and I really don't understand why. Other than the fact that you're about to die, and that I guess ups the auntie.

You know, it's uh what's funny is uh when I go looking at houses, sometimes they're vacant and then the the grass isn't like so kept. You know, maybe it, you know, because people aren't there. So when there's like no people, no dogs, no activity, you start walking around these backyards and you're like, uh I'm always afraid I'm gonna step on a snake and it's not gonna be happy. Uh yeah, but that's what you gotta be careful. And uh I saw the snake chaser, he had a picture of he goes, Look at this big boy, and I was he had it in the bucket, and I was like, What's funny is really big. I don't know if it's funny.

We had a big one. I don't know what kind it was because it was quick, but it was crawling along the side of our house. This was at the beginning of this this spring summer. On the wall? No, it was on the ground, but hugging like uh the foundation, and it was long and dark. That's all I could see real quick because I grabbed Nicolina because she goes, Daddy, I think that's a real snake. And usually she's such a prank.

Yeah, and so I grabbed her quick and said, Let's get out of here just in case. And I went back to look, and as I rounded the corner, it had made its way up into the bush. And it was like slithering in this in this big giant.

Yes, and I'm thinking that it probably yeah, I think so too. But I was still, it was one of those moments where no one wants to think. Well, I was more interested in protecting her. Yeah. And then, you know, of course, as soon as I said, yeah, that's a real snake, oh then she was gone and in the house. So I didn't have to worry about it. She's a little scaredy cat. Wow.

Huh. I was um I was looking at this crazy situation here. Um Hi, Chrissy, she just texted me. Um, good morning. Okay, I was just watching that this this family that was sleeping in the in uh their house in Nevada. Some man walking by started pounding on their door saying, Your house is on fire. And then he was he grabbed their fire, um, their garden hose and started like putting out the fire, and he kept pounding on the door trying to wake them up. Um and their cameras caught everything on tape, but they were able to get their kids and everything out the door, and it said here, um the person that was helping them disappeared into the night. They have no idea who it was.

You know, Obamacare destroyed the, you know, Obamacare and the insurance companies, who by the way, I'm just a little side fun thing, they hated Obamacare at first until it was revealed, oh, oh, we can make a boatload of money on this. Then they embraced it. So between that and the uninsured, yes.

Do you are you supposed to like all those companies that call you and all that um and say, hey, we let we can get you the best deal, uh, and you just don't know. You honestly, honest to God, you don't know what insurance company. I wish there was like a you know, I found the Department of Aging. Remember I was telling you about this? Yes. They have a Medicare like class that you could take to get your information. Um I reached out to them, I I don't know if I've heard back from them yet. I gotta get these people on the air because uh I think we're all confused, at least I am anyway. That's what I think. I think they want you confused. I was just gonna say so you don't even know what you're doing.

Confusion is inherent in the system. Yeah, intentional. Totally agree. Yeah. It it used to be a lot simpler, but when they realize that they could hide all these fees, and then of course you got the middleman in there, and then you know, you've got insurance companies negotiating with hospital systems. I mean the the hospital, you know, groups, corporations, whatever, that have like 20, 30 hospitals that serve a certain region, they will negotiate that's in mark that's in yeah, in market. And the ones when when you go to the insurance, oh the this insurance is out of market, that means they didn't negotiate a deal. So they get the they have the right, they say, to charge you even more. It's like, well, wait a minute. How is that possible? This should be like a menu. My dang hamburger cost four dollars. Why is it eight dollars if I'm out of market? You know what I mean? Yeah, but they figured out a way to just continually screw us, like you said, just assume the position.

I was looking at, you know how much it costs to buy down your rate from like 6.5 to like 6.17? It costs $22,000. So who why would you pay $22,000 to buy down your rate? I mean, it's like three and a half percent. And you have to crunch the numbers to see how long will it take you to save $22,000? And that's what I need to know. How long will it take for me to save $22,000 to make it worth it to pull it out of my savings?

You and I shop, our neighbors shop, it ain't that much better. And I'm not slamming and saying they're lying. Maybe it's better in certain sectors, but for the average me and you, no, it ain't. Yeah. Gender neutral. So here's what I found out. A 30-year fixed conventional loan means interest rate stays the same for 30 years. The PI does not change. If you put 20% down, you avoid PMI. And if you put less than 20%, you get PMI. And it's good for excellent credit, stable income, ability to make a larger payment. FHA is a fixed rate loan insured by the federal government. You put a lower minimum down payment, more forgiving of lower credit scores and past credit issues, easier to qualify. You pay an upfront mortgage insurance premium at closing. You also pay annual mortgage insurance. And if your payment is less than 10%, the Monthly MIP lasts for the life of the loan unless you refinance it into a conventional loan. Interesting. So that's when you do an FHA over a fixed rate.

So I said on the uh pre-show thing that she was a little grumpy, and you said she's never grumpy.

Michael Fields posted a $25,000 bond Thursday, hours after his arrest. Fields served as the director of operations at Paulies Island Community Church, where he oversaw security for the campus and the school. Fields declined to comment, but his neighbor spoke out in his defense. Deputy say the investigation continues. A Georgetown judge is off the bench accused of child neglect. Slid arrested Richard Todd Jr. Thursday, hours later. The state Supreme Court suspended him from his role. Todd served as a chief judge of Georgetown Municipal Court. The state's chief justice says keeping him in his role could have put the public at risk. We are working to learn more about his arrest. Taking too many vacation days. No, actually, no, I'm I'm taking the ones that they're giving me. I gotta take them. Otherwise, what happens is what happened last year. It's the end of the year. It's like, oh crap, I gotta use them. Exactly. And then I'm on my knees going, can I please carry over? Which is not policy, but every once in a while they'll let me. Uh-huh. So I and then I get the look like, don't do it again. Right. And that's that's fair. I mean, I'm not I'm not complaining. The company is they treat us great. They really do. I mean, we joke around and complain, but I'm I have no complaints.

And so anyway, the point is I gotta I gotta use them. Every year just bank on this for you, Liz. Now that everything has to be by the school year, you know, I can't I can't just randomly take these weird long vacations in the middle of the school year because school. So uh end of school year, we'll probably always go to Florida. And then uh right before we go back to if she goes back to school, Nicolina, we'll do something for her birthday.

Well, we're gonna be taking some time off to move. Um that's for sure. I just don't know when that will be. As soon as I know, I gotta call in two minute a truck um and figure that out. And um and then put my house up for sale. So if anybody's looking for a home, let me know. Uh my home might be perfect. I wish we could stay where we are. We just don't fit. Can't bring my mom in there. It's uh it's gonna be too much, too crowded. So um, even though it's a three-bedroom, I have to have one as an office. And then my mom moved in, we have no room for when the family comes, and then she doesn't have really her own space. So the new house has like her own little suite area. Um, so I I'm really um Bob the turf guy.

But um, yeah, so like doing this whole thing about, you know, and I know many of you uh do it where you have um your parents living with you, and some people try it and it doesn't work, and some people it's just too much, some people they can they can handle it. I've I've talked to a lot of people on both sides, and it really just depends on the amount of care that person needs, like physical care.

Um yeah, you are a research person, you always are looking to see if somebody has something that no, that they could add to all the things you're trying to pick up on. And I I see you talking to different people, or if somebody says something that's in that you go, oh, and then you ask. So I know you're constantly trying to learn things.

You know, it's funny. Um you know, God uh always puts people in your your path. And if you're not paying attention, you will miss that conversation. And that's I agree with you. It it was like it's really like uh now in at my age, I'm like, okay, this person is talking to me right now because I need to learn something. So what is this person trying, you know, why you know, someone brings something up? Or they say, Oh, I'm doing it right now, and the other person says, Well, I can't do it because of this. And you were talking about how awesome our bosses are. Um, they have um they have accommodated our personal lives when they when it's been needed. Well um they said they um you know, because I asked for being able to work from home for a few weeks uh when my mom moves in because it takes about four to six weeks for someone to get acclimated to their new surroundings to accept it as this is where I am now.

And so that was extremely true when someone told me that that worked at the um facility uh that she's in. And um, surely enough, uh after five weeks, she was this is my home. Even though she kept asking about her old home. Um And you know it was funny, you know, what I did was on on her door, I put the picture of her house, like a big picture of her house with at the address one one sixteen, you know, interval. And I put it on there so she like feels like when she looks at the house, she feels like it's the house.

You know, like that. Right. So it was really kind of cool. So I wanna I wanna get she loves that house so much. I want to get a um I want to blow up that picture of her house into like, you know, like an eleven by fourteen um and hang it on the wall for her because she you know, back in the 70s to buy a house and to have a family, like there was this sense of pride and um like laying down roots and this is where you're going to be till the end, you know, and paying off your house, which they did. Um, and it all of it is just like just a huge accomplishment. And and it is. But it's funny because we um these days, I mean, at least for me, I'm the opposite. I'm always making a change and I'm always like putting myself on the precipice of of a situation, and I don't know if I'm a thrill seeker or I'm just looking for I don't know, advancement in some way. You know, I'm like, oh, this is a great investment, let's move. Um, I think it's crazy and I think it needs to stop, but this is not gonna be my forever home either. It's not because um, you know, it's two floors. So I know there are some people out there that are like me that like to move around. It's not that I like it, but it's just because you need a different situation. I don't know. I did have revive the hive come to see if we could figure it out, but the footprint of the home is too difficult. I can't um I can't alter it because it's like the cement walls and you just can't, you know, blow a hole through the door and a window and make a door. Like you just can't it's just I mean you can I guess, but at what expense would I do that?

It's not right. Everything's possible, but yeah. Yeah. Who has the unlimited funds and you only have so many footage too to work with.

And it's not a good investment if if you know, if it you know but like some people say, well, what doesn't matter the investment because you're gonna stay there, it's for you. But I I d I like I like see it differently. I see it differently. I see it like, no, no, because in five years I might want to move. Maybe downsize, you know? Who knows? Um so Hey, listen, you know, every five years your life changes. No matter how much you plan. No, like think about your life five years ago. You had a three-year-old.

And like, you know and wasn't in preschool, was at home, and then a short time later she entered preschool. I mean the whole your whole and she was out of the house and during the day, and it was it was different because for the last three plus years she was there almost four years. So yeah.

And you know, looking back on my life, um, when I was having children, I was younger than you. I was like 26 and 30 when I was having children. And that is such a sweet spot in your life because your kids are little and everyone's healthy and everyone's doing their thing. Your parents are healthy, you have your grandparents, and there's just like this one little sweet spot in your life. Like one little sweet spot where everybody's happy and healthy, and you're at a barbecue, and grandma and grandpa are there, and your mom and dad are there, and your kids are there, and everybody's doing their thing. And then I don't know, it seems like your whole life falls off a cliff. It's like, oh my gosh, this person, I this, I gotta make sure I gotta, I gotta college, oh my gosh, the kids are alone in at a dorm. Oh my gosh, you know, like you just feel like you're just spinning all these plates. And then you're like, should I retire? I got aging parents, how am I gonna get them safe? And like and my dad can't drive anymore, and this and that. Um it's it really is a different um it it's very like it's so fleeting that sweet spot. And I just wish you could bottle that and remember it and recognize it when it's actually happening. Because you because you don't, you know, you have all the aunts and uncles, you have all everyone's living like in the vicinity, you see people all the time. Then the next thing you know, one kid's in Colorado, one kid's in Florida. You know what I'm saying? It's like, my my cousin, her son's living in France, and she's and he's working in France. Wow. And she said, I don't think he wants to come back. He loves it. I'm like, oh my god, what are you gonna do with your son in France? She's like, I don't know, I just went to France. She's still she just came back. So she said, What do you do when your kid moves to France and he marries a French girl? What happens then?

So it's just like just things to think about when you um kind of reflect on things. And then, you know, we we I I talk to people and I said, I said, I still can't believe Senator Lindsey Graham passed away. I can't believe it. I still can't believe it. It's it was so sudden, and then it kind of makes you realize like it is it is sudden. Well, yesterday, um Lindsey Graham's body was brought for burial. Uh it says here they were brought to a small upstate town to be buried with his parents. Um and the let me see here, a small funeral procession carrying Graham's body for burial in Mount Zion Cemetery, the same resting place of his parents, who both died when he was young. And it says here there was an escort from Columbia, about four dozen people quietly stood along the street and railroad tracks with phone cameras in hand. Six black uh vehicles um with and motorcycles went by. And the grave site along the roadside, just outside of downtown, where Graham helped his parents operate a bar and pool hall, was blocked from public access. Uh dozens of chairs, tents. Um it says here that uh this is in Central, Downtown Central. And I'm just trying to see anything else here that uh Darlene Graham was there. The joint military carried Graham's uh casket down the steps in front of the first Baptist church, and then um the cars um led him to his final resting place. I'm sure um that's uh that's uh Trey Gowdy. Um it says here, preparing to attend Senator Tim Scott's wedding, Graham showed up to meet Gowdy in cargo pants and a t-shirt when his wife asked Graham if he wanted them to wait while he got changed, and he said, changed what? He was always ch uh joking around. Uh Growdy also joked about Graham's relationship with the public, saying there was a special place in purgatory for the first person who introduced Graham to the iPhone. To all of Grin Lindsey Graham's critics, he never hated you back. He was the worst at carrying a grudge. I had to keep a list of people who were who we were mad at because he could not remember who had done what.

It says here, uh Scott shared uh Tim Scott shared his own memories when he approached a young boy named Case. Sorry, Case, there will be no social security for you, Graham told the confused child. I know we hear a lot about that. Um the most important advice, Tim Scott said, that uh Lindsey Graham every shared, he said, get really comfortable being yourself. Sometimes to be yourself and to know yourself, you've got to walk alone. God doesn't want carving copies. And Lindsay was an original. I would certainly say that is true. From what we know of him anyway. Correct. All right, so now we move on.
