Nice! Great job, Nicki Noodle. Wait a minute. Someone is asking, uh, what was the famous 80s album that used drum machines? Yeah, nobody knows. It was released uh within the last like five, six, seven years, I don't know, maybe a little bit before that, and people were shocked. And it was Def Leopard's Pyromania. You know, the song Photograph and Too Late for Love and Rock Rock Till You Drop. Uh, what was going on was the the producer, Robert John Muttlang, was listening to the drum parts and he's like, it's great, but it's not consistent enough. He was like a perfectionist. At one point, the making of the second album, which was hysteria, when they would go to strum a chord, he would record each note separately, and it took forever. So if you strum an E-chord, a full E-chord, that's six notes, he would take the E-chord, he would make the guitar player strum one note at a time, then put it together as a full chord. I mean, that's how meticulous this guy is. Hard to argue with his track record. He's one of the most prolific rock producers of all time. Then he produced his wife, Shania Twain.

It never we varies. He's obviously miming because they don't play the song in the video, they just play along to the track. He's actually playing a different part than the song. Oh.

He's not even matching it. And that could not be his fault, might have been taking at a different part. That's the video for the When he was going for a consistent sound throughout the entire album, and he needed that perfect sound. And the only way his solution, even with the older technology back in the 80s, was their version of a drum machine, program drum machines, uh Slaughter, Slaughter's album, stick it to you, up all night, sleep all day, fly to the angels. They didn't even have a drummer when they recorded that album.

Same thing, drum machine. And then they hired Bloss Elias, put him on the cover, you know, or on the back, and he learned all the parts. I mean, it happens that more than you know. That's disappointing.

I don't know. I don't think people care. I mean, it's st it's not AI. Somebody still had to go through the process. And he based a lot of those drum patterns on what the original drummer did. Rick Allen, the guy who now only has one arm.

So, but he just wanted a more consistent sound. Nowadays they kind of get away from that. There's something called drum triggers, which they use live. And it's like it you could sit up there with a pail.

And garbage like a pail. Oh, okay. Like a pail. Or or even whatever, and you put a trigger on it. And when when the trigger is activated, it has a pre-programmed sound. So you could sit up there with the worst drum set in the world. Like a who remembers the days of Kmart, like a Kmart Sesame Street drums kit. You could sit up there, and if you have a trigger on it, as soon as that pedal hits the trigger, it has that pre-programmed drum sound, and almost everybody's.

I mean, the guy still has to play it. There's a difference between the side. Yeah, but you still have to sing it. Well, that's different. I think the singing thing is different because that fixes your inability to hit those notes consistently when you're singing live. If you're flat, it fixes it, things like that. This already you're going into, I don't like the sound of that snare. I'm putting a trigger on it. Now it's the best sounding snare in the world. That doesn't matter. You're still playing it. And almost every major act does that now. Almost every. With maybe a few exceptions. But and it's like it's built in. It's like, it doesn't matter. When you sit there and do it, oh I don't like how my Tom sounds. Nobody cares. Because it's gonna go through the processor anyway. Boom, perfect drum sound.

They don't have epic guitars.

Yeah, they do. Now they have it's called a digital modeler. And you basically can take a simulation, you play your guitar through your favorite amp, run through its you know, paces a little bit, doing a couple of different things, and then that goes into the computer, and then everything you play out of the computer and or pedal and or rack mount effect unit will sound like that amp. And then people pre-program like 15 different amps at different settings. So I want this amp for this, and they click on it. Now, purists like me hate them. Okay, because you can play them at low volume, you don't even have to have any speakers on the you use in-ear monitors, there's nothing. You just plug into this computer, basically, uh-huh, essentially, and then the sound is reproduced. You're still playing it, don't get me wrong.

It it kind of is photoshopping your sound, yes. Yes. It doesn't make you play better, it's not playing for you. You're just sculpting the sound to be exactly what you want. I don't like it. Uh give me a tube amp and let me push some air.

Well, it's it's art. It's like uh a graphic artist using computer, digital computer to take their drawings and make it into something else. It's art. Art is art. But it's just some people want perfection. And that's fine. And and I'm not slamming people.

Right. People locally here, instead of you know, especially older musicians, that's what they like to say is I don't have to haul my amp around anymore. I just plug this box in. And they use in-ear monitors, or they take the monitor feed from the stage, you know, the speakers, you know, and then and it's all they have is a pedal. Go through each different sound. I need my lead sound, I need my clean sound, which is like a you know, like a clean for the guitar. I need my hard rock sound, I need my blue sound, and everything's pre-programmed, you're done. You know. And it's I have I have a modeler, if you will, for practice. I sit upstairs and I use it, but live I I I gotta use my tube amp. It just doesn't, nothing replaces it. And some people say you can't tell the difference. Maybe hearing you can't, but I'll tell you when the dynamics of playing, plugging in and how it feels and how it interacts with you know the feedback and the just no, I gotta I'm a tube amp guy. Always and forever.

It's just it doesn't have just being it doesn't have the same character. I had to, by the way, when we played, our band played at the House of Blues, and I brought just a half stack, not my full stack. And the guy looked at me with big wide eyes and goes, What are you gonna do with that? I go, Well, I'm gonna use it. That thing looks loud. I go, I go, I didn't even plug it in yet. It's tube amp, it's gonna be loud. I go, Well, you gotta get it to a certain level to get it. He goes, Don't you have anything smaller? I said, No. So we tried it the first night, and it was so quiet on stage that it wasn't tube amps need to be pushed. That's what makes them great. Okay. Even a little. And I was maxing out the pre-gain just so I can get the tubes hot, but I there was nothing on the back end because it was so quiet. And I was like, oh, it sounds like poop. Can I turn it up? Nope. Oh, forget it. So then I brought my little mini stack, which is a digital solid state amp that mimics tube sounds. Okay. And it wasn't as gritty. I had to play like four nights with that thing, and I was like, oh, this is not the same. And I vowed never to do it again. It's fine for sitting upstairs practicing, and you know, you can even record with it. It sounds great, people would never know. Many things that you hear, some of the stuff all the way back to the 80s, the greatest rock songs ever. We're all done with a processor, and no two-bank. Same thing with the drum sounds, you know, they sculpt the perfect sound.

You know, it's funny because when I was selling all my dad's stuff, the there was a guy that came that saw what I was selling, and he came from a recording studio from a few towns over, and he said, I wanted I want to come see what you got because people like that old sound and you can't get it. So he bought like all the old pedals. He bought like all the um keyboards because you can't get that sound. I mean you could do it digitally, yeah. You can mimic it, but it's not. He said it's just not the same. He's right. And so he he said that um by having these these um I guess uh original sounds, you can you can make those sounds for the recordings a lot better. I thought that was kind of interesting. But I'd like, but I said, yeah, but when you go live, it's gonna be such a letdown for people. Because it'll sound different.

It's not people don't expect most normal people don't expect it to sound just like the album. You know, unless you're participating in some form of guitar on stage where you're playing along to like 80,000 tracks. Not a fan of that. Some people are so, but your dad was right.

That was no, but I mean, didn't you say your dad got all the old stuff?

No, no. Uh when I was selling my dad's stuff, this last year. Selling your dad's stuff, got it. That's this man came from a recording studio and was like thrilled to get stuff from the 50s, 60s, and 70s and 80s because people are looking for that sound on recording um on recordings, and they can't they get it digitally, but it's not the same.

Well, it's funny you bring that up. One of the most world-renowned studios that I got a chance to visit inside and walk around for a whole day, as you know, Electric Lady Studios in New York, Greenwich Village. All the money that that studio has to reproduce all the sounds that you can imagine. They still have a big old baby grand piano in there for the full real sound. They have tube amps from the 60s and 70s, and they even have tube processing for the vocals because that's how you used to warm up vocals for recordings, you know, just sounds warmer and smoother. Yeah, and they still have all that stuff. They got all the digital stuff too, but that's the stuff they use constantly. People come in, they love to plug into that old Marshall amp from like the 72, I think he said. It's pretty incredible.

He well, he did for the longest time. I think he's streamlined. He uses ampeg for bass, it's okay to be solid state. Some people argue different. They love a tube, but I think he uses a tube pre-amp for his solid state, so it's still kind of crisp. It's a crispier sound. He he goes for that that lemmy Black Sabbath sound when he's playing it's a real distorted bass. It's kind of cool. Almost sounds like a lower end guitar. He's he's his sound is pretty thick. Anyway, look at that. The world's burning. We're talking about this top.

Um, I wanted to uh just bring to your attention, and we'll, you know, we'll talk more about Fauci and all that. But I wanted to bring to your attention there was a fifth arrest in that Paulies Island community church disaster with that sex offender volunteering um for the position that he was like a custodian position, that Warren Perry guy. He's a convicted sex offender. Well, it says here a fourth church leader, five people total, right? But he's the fourth leader that has been arrested. His name, um Michael Anthony Fields is his name. He was arrested and charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing a child harm. Authorities said Fields served as the church's director of operations and missions and was responsible for the security of the campus and the safety of the students at Pauli's Island Christian Church. And he was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center. He's scheduled to appear for a bond hearing today at 9 a.m. at the magistrates court. Um now they said that they're in the third week of this uh whole investigation. I don't know what else it will show, but he was arrested. So that means he willingly and knowingly allowed this person. So I didn't know so I didn't know like that's illegal. So it's illegal to place a child at risk. So that means serve them up on a platter, basically. That's for this that's what it means, right?

Washing the feet in front of the children, normalizing the fact that this guy's safe and he's good, he's cool. You know what I mean? And your job is security, and you didn't know, you didn't run a background check?

From the WMBF Newsroom, I'm Lauren Korn. It's day three in the trial of an Ory County man accused of shooting a baby boy as he slept in his crib. The prosecution rested its case on Wednesday when the parents took the stand. They described the moments after DeWan Cerinsey allegedly shot their 10-month-old in the face at their Conway home in 2021. The boy survived and has since recovered. Prosecutors also presented cell phone data. They say show Cerinsey traveled from Marion County to the Conway area around the time of the shooting. Meanwhile, the defense asked the judge to dismiss the case, saying there's not enough evidence. Certainsey is charged with attempted murder. The classrooms are filling up in Ory County before the first bell even rings. Twenty out of the 58 schools are at capacity for new transfers this year, but that's down from last year. Ori County Schools expects 147 new students across the district and says they will still get the same teacher support despite the growing enrollment. From the WMBF Newsroom, I'm Lauren Korn.

You know, we talked a little bit. Well, actually, we talked mostly on the pre-show yesterday. I didn't cover it too much on air, but uh what do you know about it?

What have you heard? Well um because um we know of someone that may have an ins inside track to it.

Yeah, uh this person wants to kind of remain anonymous, but uh we know for a fact that this person would know. Would know. Um I cannot go on record, but if you need more context, let me know. And I said, okay, sure. There's a lot of background happening beyond the grade changes. The report, I believe, was to assign some blame because it was exposed. But it went much deeper than grades. Money was a small factor, but dual enrollment was the driver, I think.

So do you know what dual enrollment means? So dual enrollment is when you're connected to CCU, I believe. Um, like you do your like the primary classes, what do they call them? Core classes at HGTC for like a lower cost. And then I guess what would happen, it we it actually reserves a seat for people who are moving into CCU. So maybe it would l make them look like they're producing high-quality students for CCU. Do you think that's what it is?

It could very well be. Um the thing that out of all of that, it goes much deeper than the grade changes. Is uh is what this person told us.

So let me just look here. Uh here's a document from CCU um on this here. Ori Georgetown Technic Okay, Ori Georgetown Technical College to CCU. You get your associates, um, your AA associates and arts degree, and then you get your bachelor's degree. Um this okay, so this is like for this particular course. So you do all like your primary courses, and then CCU has the equivalent to that. You know what I mean? So you take them at a lesser charge, and then you do all your core classes at a lower cost at HGTC, and then that way you enter into CCU like seamlessly. You don't lose credits, you don't have any concerns about it, you know what I mean? You kind of uh it's uh goes hand in hand and it's a an easy transition. And you do all the things that you need to do. And I guess every category or academic category has its own match for match. So if you take English 101 in the fall at, you know, Ori Georgetown Technical College, it's the same as taking English 101 composition at CCU. So that's what dual enrollment is. And I guess there's a benefit when your dual your your graduates, right, are doing getting the good enough grade because you probably have to you know, not everybody is on it. Mike, what if you fail out at HGTC? Or you don't if you have lackluster grading, maybe CCU still reserves the right to say, well, wait a minute, you didn't do well. You're not w you didn't do well enough to come in and be part of our community because every college has standards, right? So there is a a I guess a chance that you might not do well at HGTC, and if they're fudging the grades, then what happens is their students aren't um going on to the next level. Maybe that's what that person means. So in other words, you start your education at HGTC with the anticipation that you will continue your schooling career at CCU. Like you start it that way, and you do all your core credits at a lower price. Now I I I remember this because I remember a real estate agent that I had uh I had uh talked to when I was looking around for possibly moving here back in like 2012. And he said, if your son's gonna go to CCU, you should check into HGTC. You're gonna save a ton of money. If he can go to HGTC for the first two years, they'll you know, they'll usher you into CCU. Um and I my son wouldn't do it. He's like, No, I want to live there, I want to do the whole thing, I want to I want to be there the whole time. I said, honey, you're gonna save yourself tens of thousands of dollars if you do it that way. If you go to HGTC. No, I want to be part of the community. But I said, But honey, it only matters where you get your degree from. The last two years will still say you graduated from CCU. It's not gonna say, oh, well, but but an asterisk, but this person took the first two years at HGTC. I said, you're basically gonna have that CCU degree. And he just he wanted the full four-year experience of being at CCU. And now he's paying the price. My wife's gotta pay, keep paying the bill.

My wife did that, UW renowned school in Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin, did that at one of their uh satellite schools, whatever you want to call it. Uh it was the uh WASA, Wisconsin campus. She did her two years there and got her nursing degree, associate's degree, but then wanted to get her bachelor's degree. But she started there and then finished at actual UW. Right. She's got a degree from UW.

So what happened with me was I could go to Nassau Community College for my core classes and then graduate later on from Hovstra because it was $8,000 a semester back then. Now it's like $80,000 a semester. I mean, it's ridiculous. I don't know how much it is, but it's a lot. Uh the point of my story is my dad's like, I'm really sorry. It's just so expensive and we can't do it, whatever. Um, and he's like, Do you mind going to Nassau Community College? And nobody wants to go to the commuter school. Because that's what we would call it. Right? Nobody wants to go to oh, this is so lame. I see my friends always say, Oh, going to Nassau community college. I didn't want to do that. So I said, Okay, yeah, all right, Dad, no problem. You know, because what are you gonna do? Right? We didn't want to take a loan. And so I ended up getting a scholarship to Hopstra. I got a half a scholarship. So now it was four thousand dollars a year that I worked and my dad was doing gigs, so he came up with two thousand cash, and I came up with two thousand cash every semester. And I was able to go to Hofstra after all. So I understand my son's mentality because you want to be part of now I wasn't living at Hofstra's campus, even though you could have you could, but I understand the mentality of wanting to have that full university like um, you know, that connection with the university and not just go there for two years. I get it.

New tonight, the South Carolina Technical College System released a 12-page academic integrity investigation report into Ori Georgetown Technical College. That investigation came after allegations members of the school's administration fraudulently changed grades for dozens of students. The internal examination claims since the summer of 2023, 60 grade changes were made by individuals who were not the course instructor. Of the 60 grades changed, the investigation concluded, 52 were made under, quote, unauthorized or questionable circumstances. Now, in a statement to News 13 today, tech officials say while there was no evidence of fraud, this internal investigation revealed certain policy and procedure violations. The statement goes on to say HGTC took steps to strengthen its procedures to make sure this does not happen again. And you'll find a link to the report and the entire response from HGTC at WBTW.com.

Yeah, but I didn't do it, is what I'm saying. I got a scholarship. Oh I know, because you're you're reading and listening to me at the same time. Trying. Yeah. So what happened was I got a scholarship. Would have been a I didn't have to do it. Yeah. I didn't have to do it. But I under so I understood what my son was saying. Like I'd rather have the full four year experience. And I said, But baby, you're gonna have a ton of debt. And sure enough, he does. He's still saddled with that debt. Um, because he hasn't because you know during COVID they suspended paying off college loans. Remember that? And I said, keep paying them, keep paying them. Don't listen to them. He goes, Mom, they won't take my money. Like you couldn't even pay off the debt during COVID. Even if you wanted to. He said, there's no one to pay. They've suspended it. They force people not to pay it. So even if you wanted to pay it, you couldn't. So I said, Well, then put it in the bank. And you try and tell a 20-something-year-old. You know.

You know, great observation. And you and I have asked this often. Often. Since 2020. Since COVID. Both things. Why does it seem that every aspect of society someone is running a scam?

Well, they find all these loopholes. That's the problem. Is the loopholes. I don't know why.

I know. It's infuriating. We see the taxpayer dollars wasted. We see people cutting corners.

It's really hurting the kids. Yes. Um in the long run because it's the same thing as affirmative action. When you grade on a curve that has nothing to do with your academic ability and merit, you're setting the person up for failure. Because then they go in and then they're like, you know, like if you if you take an SAT score and you inflate it, and then they go to college, they get in, they're set up for failure because they don't have the background information to walk in at a level playing field.

And we've seen this.

Yeah, so like they say, like, oh, well, all the only thing that affirmative action does is it levels the playing field and says, okay, so we rise um certain grades of certain people up. So your level when you're being considered into college, but that test, some people say it's unfair, but I'm just saying, any entry test, any entry test qualifier is determining whether or not you can handle it if you have enough background knowledge, if you have education. And they say, yeah, but these kids, they come from inner cities and they don't have the right schooling or the family support, and they don't know what when they're gonna eat their next meal, and they have home insecurity, food insecurity. So we have to level the playing field. But then that kid goes to college and they are not prepared. And then you're setting people up for failure. It's like it's like going into you know a third level class when you're only in like first level. You're not going to succeed. So who are you really helping in the end? Nobody. Nobody. Nobody wins in that. No. You have to fix it in the you know, the elementary, mid, you have to it fix it in the in the the first level of schooling. You can't just patch it on the back end. All right, six fifty-five. Let's go.
