Tuesdays for Hope with new directions right now on the Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers. Talk for the entire Grand Strand.
SPEAKER_01And joining us live is Erica Gyton. I know you have a very long title, but you're like the events coordinator, the party girl.
SPEAKER_00I know direct titles.
SPEAKER_02How about the grand pooba of all things fun?
SPEAKER_00I just like to do the events and the volunteers. I'm good with that.
SPEAKER_01The goal is to raise money. And uh over the edge has gone off the edge.
SPEAKER_00Yes, and into the uh into the transformation. We had four great years though. It really was a fun event, great support from the community. Um, but we did make the decision, yes, not to renew the contract.
SPEAKER_01So um, and the reason is because we need to focus on um earning or raising as much money as possible. So now you're looking for a second signature event because the Compassion through Fashion event is huge. It grows every year. Every year. But we need another one like that. And so you've come up with a clay chute.
SPEAKER_00Yes, we've got a clay chute tournament. This will be our first year. We're really excited about it. Already got great feedback, good following, people wanting to get involved. But it will be Friday, November 13th at Backwoods Quail Club, which is in Georgetown. Okay. But um that's good, like something looking forward to spreading it out, spreading it out a little bit really moving to the South End, and that's that's what we're targeting to is the South End, and of course the hunting and the fishing community.
SPEAKER_01So I've heard about this place. So now tell people what a clay chute is.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So did you go check it out?
SPEAKER_01Can I say it first, real quick?
SPEAKER_00Go ahead. Yes, something like that. Yes, yes. There will be the big machines with the orange clays that someone will be in charge of pulling. And then um, it's $500 a team for a team of four. If you don't have a team, of course, you are welcome to still register, and we will just kind of put some groups together.
SPEAKER_01Is there a website?
SPEAKER_00I mean uh so everything is yes, so everything is on our website currently. Registration has not opened. Um, the clay chute will open next week with registration and sponsorships available. Okay. So our website, you will also notice, is changing a little bit. We've gotten some new software, but we now have an events tab and um it will have a flyer on there to save the date for our first clay chute tournament, and then it will also say information coming, which will be next week. Sponsors and registration will be open. What is provided?
SPEAKER_02What is provided?
SPEAKER_00So, yes, so your $500 registration will allow four people to participate, and we are providing lunch. Of course, we're gonna have a fun, cool t-shirt. And um, no, you have to bring your own gun.
SPEAKER_02That's what I wanted to know.
SPEAKER_00Guns are available. I have found that people who are into this. They want to bring their own and their own ammunition.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Well, that's why I asked, because we have people that are interested, and it's like, I want to bring my own.
SPEAKER_00Back Backwoods Quail Club does have guns that you can rent, but um, yes, you are welcome to bring your own guns, welcome to bring your own ammunition. Another thing um Backwoods Quail Club offers is golf carts to rent, which um, you know, people are welcome to rent for the day, but they do allow you to bring your own. So you can bring your own side-by-side golf cart, uh, four-wheeler, whatever you would like, um, to ride the individual stations. Uh if I remember correctly, there will be 15 stations set up. And so So you go from station to station. Yes. And you have a scorecard where you keep score of the amount of clays that you shoot. I still want to do that. It's a little bit like a golf tournament, I have loved because I personally have never participated in one. Yes, or disc golf, correct. Yes. So, you know, we'll have station sponsors, like you would have whole sponsors in a golf tournament stuff. Of course, we'll have an event title sponsor, um, talking to a couple different food trucks. I like this. Hope to have a food truck for lunch.
SPEAKER_01Like the fashion show is a little more feminine. Yes. And this is a little more masculine. But I like it.
SPEAKER_02There's some gals. Well, out shoot some of the guys. I've seen them.
SPEAKER_01That is true. I'm not saying that, but I'm saying you have a foo foo fashion show. Yes. And then you have like a dir down and dirty.
SPEAKER_00And with over the edge being fun and adventurous and you know, something like that. That's why I really wanted to stay in that frame of mind.
SPEAKER_02This sounds so much fun. I want to do this.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Like I said, everybody that we talked to about it, everybody I kind of felt felt out about it leading up to it, making the decision, um, was really excited. Yes. It was like, oh my gosh, I love this.
SPEAKER_01Is there a maximum number of people?
SPEAKER_00So no, they actually have two um courses. Okay. So um we could have up to 30 stations. But they would separate everybody to travel for the two different courses. Okay. So um yeah, and you can go to Backwood Quail Club's uh website. They have an event page and have I I thought it was really amazing the different uh people in our area that host events out there doing this. Um, of course, the biggest one that that we all know about locally is the real estate association. They have a clay shoot out there um every, I believe it's in the spring. And so um talk to a couple of people that have participated in that. And so, yeah, I mean, we're really excited, really looking forward to it. But yeah, your $500 includes your participation, um, includes lunch, includes t-shirt, and um, all the things that people like to do to make themselves comfortable when they're participating in something, we're letting them provide, which is of course the guns, the ammunition.
SPEAKER_02They're making sure that none of the Cheney family's there, because you know it's an old joke. But it's funny.
SPEAKER_00Too funny, yes. But Friday, November 13th, helpnewdirections.org, the events tab at the top of the website is where all of our information will um be from here on out regarding all of our events for New Directions. So that will include, like we mentioned, the clay chute tournament. And then, of course, just to get it out there again, save the date, Friday, March 12th, 2027, Compassion Through Fashion at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. And of course, the wonderful N Maguire has already agreed to be our presenting sponsor again this year. Very good. So um, we are really excited trying to figure out how we're gonna top last year, like we mentioned. Every year it gets bigger and better. Yeah. Last year was so good. Anyone with great ideas, we'd love for you to join the committee. We do have a clay shoot committee also.
SPEAKER_01You have really created a streamlined high class event. I mean, it has really come up into its own now.
SPEAKER_00It is.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it really was a great event. So, and how many people attended that this CTF? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh gosh, I know we hit almost 600 with everyone in the room. But that includes your volunteers and everything. And I that's why I like to tell people events and volunteers that kind of go hand in hand. It's compassion through fashion, in order for us to pull that event off. It takes over a hundred volunteers start to finish. You know, just soliciting everything, organizing everything, the day of, the setup, the breakdown.
SPEAKER_01So much.
SPEAKER_00The the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it's so worth it. Yes. You get a really good return from that. So all right, Erica Gyton. Anything else you'd like to add before we go? No, ma'am. That's about it. All right. Well, I shared that link on our Facebook page, which you can keep, you know, checking the helpnewdirections.org Facebook page. And if if you like to make a donation, uh, you can do that as well. But how great is this? You can make a donation and have an experience all in one. Make it a bonding experience with the people you work with. We put a new team together. Yeah, what is it? November 13th. And two ringers. Wait a minute. What?
SPEAKER_02That's the day of our Is that a Friday?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's Toys for Tots. Okay, we need to figure that out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think we can work on that. It will be in the morning, starting about 8 30. Oh. Should finish up by 12 30. Friday morning? Yes. So I'm not sure where Toys for Tots is as far as drive time for you guys.
SPEAKER_02That's later in the afternoon. Oh, there's maybe we could broadcast live and you're gonna fire off a couple live on the air and do the show out there.
SPEAKER_00I think it's an excellent idea.
SPEAKER_01That sounds good. I was thinking, and then I said, nah, Nick's never gonna want to go all the way to Georgetown for morning show. But there you go. Well, you and I will ride together. That would be cool. That kind of like is your birthday gift.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right.
SPEAKER_00We would love to.
SPEAKER_01All right, we'll we'll put that in the show. We'll discuss. What are you talking about? Maybe I didn't say it was at night.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm saying Maybe you can get two ringers from your listeners. That's what I'm thinking.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, all right.
SPEAKER_01Well, thank you so much, Erica. Helpnewdirections.org.
