Scott Harper of GapNoods Online dot com. Good morning.
SPEAKER_03Good morning, Miss Liz. How are you today?
SPEAKER_04We are doing great. Did you have a good Fourth of July weekend?
SPEAKER_03Yes, it was just hot and eventful. There was a lot of things going on in Georgetown that day.
SPEAKER_05Excellent.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, it it was like a nine-day period. They had activities every day for like nine days in a row. But the big thing they did on the fourth of July, they opened a time capsule at the uh old courthouse.
SPEAKER_04You know what I saw in that was uh the news article about the steel mill they were gonna build for seven million dollars.
SPEAKER_03You can't buy a house for seven million dollars today. And they built a whole steel mill for seven million dollars.
SPEAKER_05Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they're gonna have all that stuff that they uh uh that came out of the time capsule. It's gonna be at the Georgetown Library on uh July 20th.
SPEAKER_04I thought it was so cool that the original committee was, you know, the members were there to see this being opened from 1776. I mean not 17, 1976. Um and so I was just wondering, yeah, like what are some of the things that you thought were really cool and and I know that you streamed it live.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you know what I thought was cool was um the radio station stuff because uh they had a uh uh the um little tape that they had uh from one of the radio stations. Oh that's so cool. Um was uh had had a little uh type letter on the front of the envelope and was signed by Bill Nichols, who was the uh radio station owner by uh back then, and he was my first boss uh when I my first job was at uh was at his radio station on uh right across from where the steel mill was. Um and you know, to see his name on there and you know, it was just kind of cool. But they're gonna have a uh a tape layer or or something that where they're gonna play those tapes, and they've got a uh 35 millimeter film.
SPEAKER_05Wow.
SPEAKER_03And we took back in the day. Uh they're trying to find a projector. They can't find a projector, but they're trying to find a projector so so they can show that film. But uh those projectors are 35 millimeter? Yeah, remember those eight millimeter. Well, um, whatever they were. Maybe I got the the numbers wrong. I may have a projector.
SPEAKER_04I may have one.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you may have one.
SPEAKER_04I have to go check because I I I feel like I brought one home from New York because my my I I had multiple, but I sold some of them in the yard sale.
SPEAKER_02Fifty years from now, people are gonna hold up a CD going, what's this? I know.
SPEAKER_04I might have that eight millimet. I got I'll look, I'll look. Because it's like a little film strip that you Yeah, there's little there's little, you know, little thirty-five millimeter is what you take pictures on.
SPEAKER_03I'm sorry, I got the numbers wrong. But the um yeah, the ones that uh you know it lasted about two minutes or something. Yes. Yes. Yeah, so you had a whole box full of them. Yeah. People were sending off mail to get them digitized these days. Yes, yeah. I've got a box of them in my in my room. Well, my dad did that.
SPEAKER_04My dad did that. He sent off all of his childhood eight millimeters and we have videos of it. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So I need to do that with the ones we've got here. But yeah, they're gonna uh put another time capsule on the wall later.
SPEAKER_04Uh are you gonna be on the committee?
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna I'm well I'm not on the committee, but g I I did get them to agree to put something from Gab News in there. Awesome. Well you're a big major part of it. It'll be opened in uh 2076 on July 4th. I'm not gonna be there, but uh, you know.
SPEAKER_04How many years away is that?
SPEAKER_0350. They do it every yeah, 50 for for America's 300 years.
SPEAKER_04How old will you be?
SPEAKER_03Uh 105.
SPEAKER_04There's a possibility.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, uh-huh.
SPEAKER_04I saw 107-year-old people over at the America 250.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but my my kids my kids can be there in my place. That that'll work.
SPEAKER_04Can you imagine just 50 years away? We're thinking we may not be here. Most likely not. Oh right. Isn't that crazy? When you add up how many summers you have left in your life, how many weekends you have left. You know, you gotta spend your time wisely.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's true. One of the things we're gonna put in the new time capsule is a cell phone. Uh, I guess I don't know if it's gonna be an iPhone 17 or whatever, but still I just can't wait. Uh I wish I could be there because I want to see what people think that is when they open it in fifty years. Thinking like, what they used to carry these things around?
SPEAKER_04Now we just have it implanted in our heads. You know, like the dogs the dogs get microchipped. That's what's gonna happen to us.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that and and the uh the glasses were becoming so popular now.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. I got my son of years ago. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_03It does that. So Yeah, so that's fun watching that get open, and we'll be there on the twentieth when they do the uh where they, you know, play the tapes and films and all that stuff um at the library on on the twentieth.
SPEAKER_05That's cool.
SPEAKER_03Well, we had a big story yesterday, uh and I know this one's gonna be close to your heart. Um a couple was arrested in Wedgefield Plantation, Ralph and uh Kimberly Moody. Um that's the first question I asked the Sheriff's Department. Are they related to Raymond Moody? And uh they don't think so. They don't they don't think there's a uh connection there. Um but um Ralph and uh Kimberly Moody, a couple, husband and wife, uh uh they were arrested after more than 100 dogs were found in their house in Wednesfield Plantation.
SPEAKER_04What kind of dogs are they?
SPEAKER_03Um all different kinds. We've got a video on our on our website. Um were they inbreeding?
SPEAKER_04Is that how they got to someone?
SPEAKER_03I don't know what they were doing. Um they're gonna have a bond hearing today. I'm not sure what what they were doing, but they had a hundred and some dogs in their house. Actually, a lot more than that because they took like 50 dogs from their house and dropped them off at the Humane Society earl uh last week. So they had at one time like 150 dogs in the house. And this is a small uh medium-sized house. It's not a big house. Uh when I got there yesterday, I mean it sounded like you know what a uh like a humane society or animal shelter. What it sounds like when you walk with all the dogs barking at one time. That's what it sounded like. I mean, from from the road. And so they we've got a video on our um website and the story of them taking the dogs out one at a time and uh putting me putting them in the uh St. Francis Street. Well mannered dogs, or were they they looked like in fact they looked like they were well fed, uh, you know, they they weren't like I was expecting to see, you know, skinny, you know, bones sticking through dogs. I know they were they looked healthy, they looked nice, but uh some neighbors that I talked to while we were while we were there um said that they've never seen any of the dogs outside. They were always in the house from the time they got there. So um so this has created uh an interesting situation because they took all the dogs, all the 100 dogs, to the uh St. Francis Humane Center, uh Humane Society Center, and they were overcrowded to begin with. I mean, they've been begging for foster uh homes and and and stuff like that for for a long time because they said they were before yesterday they were three hundred percent overcrowded, uh overcapacity. And then they added a hundred and some dogs to that yesterday. So they really need help.
SPEAKER_04If if anybody can be a foster home for a for a dog or they need dog food, they need leashes, collars, dog shampoo. I'm looking at your article right now and watching the video of these uh people. People are just so irresponsible with pet ownership. I mean, you gotta get your dog spayed and and uh they actually have uh I was talking with Ori Count uh Ori County Animal uh Care Center, and they're doing something with pities and bullies, and they're doing some kind of spaying program because they said those are the dogs that are mostly just overpopulated, but these don't look like those at all, and they do look big like I don't know what these dogs were eating, which is also unnerving to think about.
SPEAKER_03Um Well Yeah There's one interesting part on the video that's kind of funny. Uh you know, the situation's not funny. But when the man was getting arrested, Ralph Moody, but uh the he he put his own handcuffs on. If you watch the video, he put his own handcuffs on it on his wrist.
SPEAKER_04I mean, that man does not look well.
SPEAKER_03Um I've never seen anybody who do that before.
SPEAKER_02I I don't know. I I had to walk out of the studio for just a second, so if you address us, I'm sorry. But is there any relation to the other infamous Moody? Just curious.
SPEAKER_03No, I I told Liz I asked that the sheriff's department. They don't think they're related. Okay. But that yeah, that was the first thing that came to mind because you know it's not a very common last name. Yeah. You know. Um so they're looking.
SPEAKER_04Now, Tractor Supply is out there now. They're open down in Andrews.
SPEAKER_03Yep, that one's open, and we've got the one in Georgetown too. So we have both of them.
SPEAKER_04Okay. Yeah, so they're looking to purchase 20 outdoor kennels from Tractor Supply. Did you guys talk to the management there? Because sometimes they can work out some deals for these kennels.
SPEAKER_03I haven't, but maybe they maybe they will. I haven't talked to them. Um I'm gonna do a follow-up today. Go to I'm going to the Humane Society and find out, you know, how they're handling this, and then I can do that. I can run by Tractor Supply and just say, hey, you know, maybe it'd be a good advertisement for them if they, you know, do cut them a deal.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Should uh talk to the management there. You never know. Um, because I i it's just so horrible. Um the the amount of animals that I don't know what can be done. I I but there's gotta be a solution, but we're just overpopulated.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I know. I know, but I I you know, uh what they were doing with the dogs, that's what I want to find out. I mean, why did they have a hundred dogs in their house? I mean, they're hordes. Yeah, the um the sheriff's department when they first got there, they had to put on hazmat suits to go in the house. They said it it was so bad that the the smell and everything.
SPEAKER_04I've covered I I covered a story on Long Island. I remember Adirondack Drive, I'll never forget the I'm talking like thirty something years ago. And I pulled up to the house, it was a hoarding situation, and the dogs were feral inside the house, living in the house. I don't even know what they were dead, they were alive, and the person was found dead of like natural causes in their car. They were living in the car and just left the house until all the dogs and this is dead. Oh my god. I mean, like I don't it's a mental illness. It's it's a hoarder a hoarder's mental illness type of thing. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I guess it just uh, you know, I I I wish and I don't know, maybe the deputies when they were in the house, they may have taken pictures that we can get a hold of. Uh because I'm I'm just curious what it looked like inside the house. Um you know. Anyway, so yeah, we'll we'll cover that bond hearing and see what happens with with them today. Um it's gonna be loud on Front Street and the surrounding areas for a while for the next couple of months. The dredging project is getting underway. People have been waiting for this for a long time. Um, we've had a problem getting boats, just recreational boats, into the um front street area where people can dock and go enjoy um restaurants or whatever. But that's about to change. They're dredging the uh the harbor right there uh along Front Street and behind what was the steel mill property. Uh it's gonna be uh one that's going when it's said and done 12 feet deep. Um right now it's like maybe two feet in places, um, even at high tide. It's just it hasn't been dredged since uh 2008. So they're getting that underway. They've got the big dredge out there. Uh it arrived uh this week. But it's gonna take about three months, so they said it's gonna be 24 hours a day, so it's gonna be loud, it's gonna be in a you know, an eyesore for you know, three months, but then uh it'll be worth it once it's all over with. Um, you know, we can get uh even we'll even be able to get shrimp boats back in there if the shrimp boats won't. Yeah, the shrimp boats have not been able to get back there. And uh they they've left and gone to McClellanville and other places, but once this is done, maybe we'll get some of our shrimp boats back. I hope so. That's just something we need in Georgetown. So anyway, that's some of the uh big stuff that's happening in in Georgetown. Um well the foxes the the fox has been returned. If you want to see what that's about, you can go to our website. We uh a little fox statue. Uh as part of the America's 250 uh in Georgetown, they hid these little fox statues along Front Street, different places, and the you know, the uh idea was for people to find them, take pictures of them. And uh, but somebody stole one of them, or it it was thought that somebody stole one of them. Um it ended up not being stolen, it ended up being just misplaced. Oh and uh one of the county workers found it. But uh yeah, that was a uh a big scandal on Front Street for uh for a couple of days this week, but it has been solved. So you can go but look for all the foxes again. Okay on Fort Street. That's it. That's it. I told you how exciting it was.
SPEAKER_04Nikki in the back, you have a question?
SPEAKER_02I do. Uh uh uh are you listening, Scott Harper? Yes, sir. Uh we have a submission for the new time capsule in Georgetown, and we thought we'd play a little snippet for you.
SPEAKER_03A little river yesterday, you know, it's going down uh highway uh nine. And so I can tell you if you're in longs now, you can look, you can search, you can dig, you can do it, you can take a treasure up, you can do whatever you need to do. You're not gonna find the G spot. It's not gonna happen. It's gone. It's now called Max Sports Bar. Um What happened to the dreamery eatery? Dreamery Eatery. I stopped by on the way yesterday and took a picture. You still got me on the book.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So the limple went off in my head.
SPEAKER_04Oh, oh, Max Sports Bar. Oh, no, that's a different building. That's not the Disney building. That's not the new bar. No, that's not the different. I'll look it up on Google. Sorry, you're a guy. You don't know how to find it. We have the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01For the time capsule.
SPEAKER_03I can't believe you got joke. I don't believe this today about this.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and that forced me to that forced me to go look for it and find it.
SPEAKER_02I kind of edit just a little bit just to get to the uh the heart of it, and I figured I'd end it right there with Liz saying, oh, you're a guy, you can't find it.
SPEAKER_04But you didn't add in all the laughter afterwards.
SPEAKER_02Oh, but yeah, it went on for quite a while because we were hammering on you. It was an anniversary that you arrived. You had this new thing you were debuting.
SPEAKER_03That was a fun day. I love that show.
SPEAKER_04That makes that was one of the funniest moments. Because then it they like clicked in my head, and I was like, wait a minute. No, I know Maxworth, the blue building. Yeah. So there you go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Anyway, well, enjoy your weekend. Have a wonderful weekend. Stay cool.
SPEAKER_04All right, have a foxy weekend, and we'll talk to you next time.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you know, okay.
