SPEAKER_03The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers. Yes. Special guestresses that make you think right now. On Talk 94.5.
SPEAKER_01Here he is, Christian the intern.
SPEAKER_00What's up, guys?
SPEAKER_01This is my my grandson. I know.
SPEAKER_00Long time, Nelsie.
SPEAKER_01How you been?
SPEAKER_00I've been good.
SPEAKER_01How many miles have you have you ran since you landed here yesterday afternoon?
SPEAKER_0014.
SPEAKER_01He's a runner.
SPEAKER_03But it hasn't been this hot where you were at. No.
SPEAKER_00So did you uh have to adjust? Yeah, yesterday. Yesterday was brutal. We landed at about 10 30. Went for my run after lunch at about like 2 about midday, right when it was peak sun.
SPEAKER_01I told him not to do it.
SPEAKER_00I was sweating buckets. It was it was bad when I got back. Jumped right into the pool, so that always makes it feel better.
SPEAKER_01But you know, um to this morning he ran at 6 a.m.
SPEAKER_00Much better, yeah. Yeah, a lot better, but still hotter than anything I've ran in Chicago.
SPEAKER_01For a while. All right, so he is an award-winning scholar athlete.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01He's amazing.
SPEAKER_03You've been keeping us updated, but go ahead, tell us. What have you been doing? Busy running as always.
SPEAKER_01Cross country.
SPEAKER_00Yep, cross country.
SPEAKER_01By the way, and we'll be here for Halloween weekend. We're gonna go up to Chicago and see him in his final cross country meet. I might be gone then too. Halloween? Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00But yeah, just busy running and yeah, going into senior year at St. Norman.
SPEAKER_01But you got some you got some awards.
SPEAKER_00Yep, I did. Um, I got team MVP since I've been gone. Um I've gotten a few different scholarships and different um just kind of academic awards at school. Um, so obviously super thankful for those. Been working hard, um, running in the classroom and at work too. I got an internship uh back home doing parts and rec, paid internship, running all of these sports programs. Run of course it involves running somewhat, right? Different different type of running. Um, and then yeah, just kind of staying busy with that, trying to work my way through that and keep on keep on grinding, right?
SPEAKER_03So, in the immortal words of the, and I'm gonna give you a reference, you have no idea what I'm talking about, but Liz does, the Twisted Sister video. What do you want to do with your life?
SPEAKER_00So I'm hoping I've moved away a little bit from the radio aspect of things. What? I have I think I want to go more into the um kind of sports manager route. Um whether that's in a as an athletic director for a high school or running athletic programs.
SPEAKER_01You sent him a job.
SPEAKER_00She did.
SPEAKER_01Because there was a job opening here in one of the schools.
SPEAKER_03You know, that's probably the safer bet. Radio's unstable, and look at the people he got to work with. Wasn't too bad a couple summers ago. Yeah, you like her. Hey, how about the Chicago Bears? Are they still gonna beat the Chicago Bears?
SPEAKER_00I I had to explain this to Liz.
SPEAKER_03Please explain it to me because I'm not.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it's it's definitely a possibility they leave and go to Indiana. Um, I think they'll still Explain why, though.
SPEAKER_01He explained to me why, because that was the first question.
SPEAKER_03They're already in the process of building the stadium.
SPEAKER_00No, so what they're in the process of is talking about stadium plans to build. Nothing has actually been put into plan to build, nothing is determined as of taxpayer dollars and who's gonna pay for what and how it's gonna go.
SPEAKER_03So this is another example of a sports team holding the city hostage.
SPEAKER_00Yes, and no. They want Illinois.
SPEAKER_01Um But tell them how bad the Bears Stadium is right now, because I didn't know this.
SPEAKER_00So I I personally I've been around Soldier Field, which is the Bears Stadium where they play at. Um, I've actually never gone to a Bears game.
SPEAKER_01But can you imagine that?
SPEAKER_00How? But so a lot of my friends and family, so I've heard a lot of stories, and Soldier Field is right on the lake, real cold art. Obviously, you already get that that lake effect.
SPEAKER_01Have you been there, Nick?
SPEAKER_00Uh I have been to Soldier Field. So you know what you have to do. Yeah, I watched the Packer game and they beat him. So I'm sure you took that mile walk into the stadium from the parking lot that they have and gone under the tunnel and made all that cold walk. Yeah. You know, that's just that's not fun for any fan to make. Um football fans are a little bit different, I guess, but I think the Bears they just want something different and they want a domed stadium. They want to kind of get away from that cold a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Well, the stadium was opened in 1924. I knew it was the 20s, but I wasn't sure when.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03They have done upgrades, but not.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, not it's not I mean, especially when you look at that new life. Running water now.
SPEAKER_03I mean, that's about it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So looking at some of the other stadiums, they just want something newer. In a big market like that, you gotta keep on updating. So I agree. But holding a city hostage, yeah, definitely not not the way to go, and I think that's why they're kind of making this kind of move with Indiana to try and it's a threat.
SPEAKER_03But he you have to remember something, and I know, Liz, I think you and I have talked about this before. The NFL is sitting on piles of money. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But they want the cities to pay because they benefit from it.
SPEAKER_03Who really benefits more? Because no, because the police has to have a lot of people.
SPEAKER_01Look at what's happened with the Pelicans. Same thing, right? It's not on a smaller scale, yeah. But there's a battle. You everybody has to have skin in the game. Yeah. Um, speaking of game, so tell us about your uh track career real quick. You have a cross country, and then like what's your sport like what's your your thing?
SPEAKER_00So, yeah, in the fall I run cross country, and then come like winter time, we've run indoor track, and then come springtime, we're an outdoor track. So a full year basically of just running and training and all that. Running racing.
SPEAKER_01I don't know much about track.
SPEAKER_00So what I do, I'm a distance guy. I uh I wasn't blessed with fast feet, so I'm able to just hold uh hold a faster pace than a lot of other people for about 20, 30 minutes. So I can I can do that, but I can't run a fast 100. I wish I could.
SPEAKER_01So how long does it take for you to run seven miles?
SPEAKER_00Uh this morning I did seven miles in about 48 minutes. Um that's kind of just like a training one. I don't think I could drive seven miles in 48 minutes around here.
SPEAKER_01How many? Uh what's your mile minute?
SPEAKER_00Uh, my fastest mile that I've ran is a 422 mile.
SPEAKER_01Oh my God.
SPEAKER_03Man, it takes me longer than that to get to the kitchen and make a pizza.
SPEAKER_01Takes me four minutes to get from the bed to the bathroom.
SPEAKER_03Not that bad.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god. Speak for yourself, grandma. By the way, by the way, Javier is here. Hello, everybody.
SPEAKER_02It's been a while. How's it going? It's always so happy.
SPEAKER_01All right, tell everybody how how uh how proud of an abolito you are.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh. I feel like a Mexican rooster. Tell me mess with my grandson. Very, very proud. Very proud. It's like uh you never thought this dabe was gonna be here, and then now he's here.
SPEAKER_01It goes so fast, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. What do you guys think? Like, wow. Great, great, great, great, great, great kids. How many times can you go?
SPEAKER_03What do you what do you have planned today? Where are you guys taking them?
SPEAKER_02Well, them I was girlfriend. Yeah, and the girlfriend's here, so what kind of thing?
SPEAKER_01Well, we're gonna introduce you to Maryland in a minute.
SPEAKER_02She's coming. Don't worry, you're gonna hear from her. She's already doing the nice try.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, she's coming. She's coming.
SPEAKER_02No, no, we're gonna try to maybe go Broadway at the beach and uh I'll be able to do that. Yeah, probably because I'm again all this advertising of go inside where it's nice and cool. And I said, Well, there's nothing wrong with that. When it's 110 degrees, 90 degrees, like just like that, you know. But um, yeah. I would like to go inside where it's a nice air conditioning pizza for sure. Pizza. Pizza.
SPEAKER_01We're not known for pizza here, honey. Yeah. No, what are we known for?
SPEAKER_03It's good pizza here.
SPEAKER_01Uh, what are we known for here, though? We're not known for pizza. Sand. Uh chicken bog. Yeah. They're not gonna want chicken bogs.
SPEAKER_02No, they don't want chicken bags.
SPEAKER_00I think I searched this up. I think you guys are known for like a weird like sauerkraut hot dog. Really? Like when you look when you Google it, I think that's what I saw.
SPEAKER_03That's wrong.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, what about you some green bean uh pickle soup? Green bean pickle soup.
SPEAKER_01Uh no. No. That's probably lizards and gizzards. There's good stuff.
SPEAKER_03There's good seafood here. Oh, yeah. Yes, he loves seafood. There's really good seafood here. And there is good pizza here. You just gotta find it. We will find it. Oh, yeah. That's not impossible. Well, he comes from big time. Well, yeah, see, that's the thing. See, we all grew up Midwestern pizza, which is Chicago style pizza. Yeah, way different. Right, and she's New York. So it is hard to find a good Chicago style pizza here. I've adapted because everything is more New York style.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Now it's tavern style pizza.
SPEAKER_01That's what's that?
SPEAKER_00It's like at the bar. Tavern.
SPEAKER_01You mean like flatbread?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like more flat pizza, like a little bit of like a flakier crust on the bottom, but it's still like a small crunch, and then yeah, you go for like those middle pieces with more crust.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, to Anto's? Yeah. Yeah. Um, remember, Nick, we uh you guys made me go to that place in sh uh Chicago area, that hot dog place?
SPEAKER_02Gene and Judes?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Remember that, Nick?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you told us about that place.
SPEAKER_01Was that you? Gene and Gene and Judes.
SPEAKER_03Gene and Judes, yeah, is it still there? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Best hot dogs. Yeah, remember I went there?
SPEAKER_03Best hot dogs ever.
SPEAKER_01That's where we went. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Me and Maryland actually just went to hot dog fest in in Chicago. Did they have a booth side? They didn't. They didn't. What?
SPEAKER_03They only Are they getting old or something?
SPEAKER_00I think so. Yeah. They were around when I was young. But yeah, that was. What do we have? We I think we had like four or five each?
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00We had a good amount.
SPEAKER_01Okay. She's so tiny. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Anthony says she crab soup is what the Grand Strand's known for. Oh, there is some really good varieties of sheet crab soup. Yes.
SPEAKER_01And he loves Oysters Rockefeller. Maybe we should go to that Graham's Landing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's always an option.
SPEAKER_03Uh Extreme Pizza, Broadway at the beach, if you guys are going there. Extreme pizza. Okay. Also, Gino's has. How extreme is that?
SPEAKER_01So extreme. Bobby likes everything extreme. Alright, when we come back, we're gonna meet Maryland.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01And see what she's doing.
SPEAKER_02She's still saying no.
SPEAKER_01That's okay.
SPEAKER_00She's got no choice.
SPEAKER_01She's got no choice. Do you see how they wow?
SPEAKER_03You're gonna take that crap from him? It starts like that now, and then pretty soon you're in a toxic relationship.
SPEAKER_01We'll be back in a moment.
