SPEAKER_00All right, it is 739 and the boys are here, but we're mixed up a little. Because we have Jason here, half of the the brother duo. Jonathan's on vacation, and we have Chris here, who is the design manager. He's the one who creates what is in your mind on paper on a computer screen. And you can actually see what the finished product looks like. And we met the design manager Chris the other day, Jason uh the week before. So uh welcome to the show, you guys. Good morning. Thank you. So you guys can follow along on revive thehive sc.com to see all the different things that they do, not just um kitchen remodels and bathroom remodels, but uh they are general contractors, right? Yes, yeah, so they could do so many different things for your home, whether it's putting an extension or even building a whole house for goodness sakes, they could do all of that. And they're here to answer your questions live on the air. The budget blinds text line is open 843-798-talk, 798-8255. And we're gonna talk j exactly about that right today.
SPEAKER_01Yes, correct.
SPEAKER_00All right, so choosing a contractor, because you know you're gonna have to live with this person a while.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. So vetting a contractor is very important.
SPEAKER_00Because you let leaving them in your house sometimes, you're leaving your house. You you need to trust that they're gonna be doing all the right things. Yes, correct. All right. So explain a little bit about what a contractor is. What do you do as a contractor?
SPEAKER_01So I mean, as a contractor, we're we're licensed, and that's the number one thing. Making sure this contractor's licensed, and you can check it through the um LLR, um, the licensing board, to see if they're actually actually licensed.
SPEAKER_00Do people lie about that sometimes?
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02But it's easy to double check, cross-reference. Very easy, yes.
SPEAKER_01Yep. They have a website you can just type in the name um and and their information and it'll come up, whether they're licensed electrically, plumbing, whatever the license holds.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And what is your license exactly called?
SPEAKER_01So ours is uh actually a home builder's license. Um and the the newer one actually allows us to be electrically um plumbing, um HVAC actually. We're all licensed in that and and actually construction of the home. So some of the older ones, they don't fall under that, but our ours actually does cover all that.
SPEAKER_00So we took the test to to take all the electrical plumbing and you know uh all those aspects of of doing whatever needs to be done in a big way because sometimes, like when you're doing uh a kitchen remodel, it touches all of those different areas. Yeah. So um so what happens when you go in there, Chris, um, and people ask you about licensing or what you're able to do, and they're getting a few different estimates. What is the education piece that people need to know about that? I mean, one of the things that's how to vet people themselves, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Exactly. One of the things is of uh being licensed, being able to pull a permit, because a lot of the companies they can't pull permits because you have to have special licenses for it to be able to be insured. You know, that's stuff I I look for myself when I'm looking for people to work on my house because you have someone in there who's going to be doing electrical and plumbing. I want to make sure they know what they're doing. Absolutely, and having that extra set of eyes come in after the contractors come in to do it is the greatest thing ever. You know, those are the things I want my clients to have that safety, that uh safe net to be able to have. Um permit is such a big thing right now because I hear a lot of people where they're like, well, you know what? I can get John Doe over here to do it. He doesn't have to worry about pulling a permit, but you know what, you're taking a chance of your hacking.
SPEAKER_00What is the permit process? Because I that I because I'm speaking for people who don't, you know what I mean? So like I wouldn't even know what's the difference between pulling a permit and not pulling a permit.
SPEAKER_03So it costs more money to pull a permit, but it does cost some to pull a permit, depending on what a project is, they value it on a percentage of the project of it. Um the biggest thing is is like we take care of that part of it because traditionally you have to go there, you have to present your license, you have to have a state license, a county license to be able to pull your permits and everything else, which most customers won't know that. You wouldn't know that and everything on it. So we take care of that process for our clients and everything, where I, you know, most likely it's me, you know, due to traveling and everything. I'll go to Conway, we'll go into the uh where we pull the permits out, give all the information, sign all the papers, and make sure we're good to go on it. And then we also line up where they come out and do the inspections, the final inspection, make sure everything's done correctly in the code.
SPEAKER_01If if permits aren't pulled too, you could also have issues with insurance and stuff if something goes wrong. You know, so it it protects us as well as the client. So it's a a mutual thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And uh a lot of people just like to cut corners like that. And yes, in the long run, when you're doing such a major investment on your home, you never want to go.
SPEAKER_03Uh this is just my experience and my personal opinion, you know, there are people that will do low bids out there, and I've always had that feeling I don't want to go up the lowest bid just because you may not get a permit pulled, or you may get someone, oh, I know a little bit of electrical, so I'll just go ahead and do this real quick, especially when you're pulling 240 for a wall oven or something like that. Or, you know, when you're doing showers and you got to replace valves and stuff like that, you don't want that slow leak in the wall and everything, where in years to come and everything you got mold buildup and all those other problems.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Okay, so do we have any questions on the budget blinds text line? We do revive the hive.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we got our first one in. Can the guys replace windows and homes? I have an eight-year-old home and I want to install better windows like Hurricane Rated.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, we do that actually regularly. Yes, yes, we do it quite often. Windows, doors, all that stuff. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, any uh what about like those big iron doors? Can you guys do that?
SPEAKER_01Um you know, those are more specialty uh for the door companies because there's so many different designs and and sizes that they actually make a lot of those specific for that customer. We usually leave that kind of stuff up to them.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Now, um speaking of things that you know that you guys handle, I mean, when a project is so large, right? You're doing you know, you're like the conductor of a symphony, um, and making sure all of it is um working out. So like you guys just handle all the headaches. That's how I feel. As a homeowner, I'm like, all right, you guys figure it out. Let me know when I can come, you know.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's the big thing about us general contractors. We take on the responsibility of arranging, you know, the electrical, the plumbing, uh installing the cabinets, you know, all this stuff we take care of. Where if a homeowner, you know, trying to cut corners or save money, which there's no problem with that, but they take on those headaches themselves where they got to find the electric electrician to be able to do this, the plumber to do this. Oh, I gotta find a tile guy now, and they gotta orchestrate that. Where us, you come to us, spend a little bit more money, we take care of that for you.
SPEAKER_01And and we really try to encourage the customer to use us in that manner because we can we can coordinate it all a whole lot smoother. Yeah. Because if if one thing goes wrong, it sets everybody off. Yeah. So we can kind of coordinate that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the logistics of doing uh a home renovation uh is you know, it it could be taxing if you do it yourself. You know, you gotta move furniture, you gotta, you know, maybe move out of a section of your home.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, it's you're having strangers come in your house and we try to make it as comfortable as we can, you know, to come in.
SPEAKER_00And these are people you're trusting.
SPEAKER_03Correct. You know, where they're coming into my home and they're gonna be moving furniture, they're gonna be there for months at a time and everything else. I got strangers coming in going, okay, am I gonna be okay here and everything? You know, but that's where uh I come in because I'm able to work with uh clients, build that relationship so they have a little bit more trusting with us and everything else. You know, I have tons of projects that we have that we worked on, you know, where we might come into small problems and everything else, but my whole philosophy is as long as the project doesn't come to hold, we're still doing great. And you know, the customers they realize that and everything else because I would love to do the perfect project, but something always minor comes up and you're like, oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when you're looking for a contract or two, you want to make sure that they're vested in in the community. So you want to make sure they have trucks on the road, they have their their signage, they have an office, different stuff that they're actually vetted in this community. Yeah. Um it's not a fly fly-by-night thing. Right, right. Yes.
SPEAKER_00How many times have we been burked by that? You know, yeah, and once and twice, that's all you need.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's the biggest thing is like handy men over the years, you know, they've really got I mean, there's some good handy men out there, don't get me wrong. But the name handyman has kind of got tarnished over the years where I've heard horror stories and Jay will agree and everything else. Oh, I gave this guy ten thousand dollars and he disappeared.
SPEAKER_00It happened to me. I hunted him down. That was the worst day of his life. But yeah, it happens.
SPEAKER_01It's almost like a relationship too. You know, you you do you trust them? Do you feel comfortable with them? You know, when you look at their social media, did they are there pictures on there that they didn't do, or are there, you know, did they photoshop everything? Wait a minute, that looks like the White House. Right, right. So you really want to check that out because you you need to be honest with each other.
SPEAKER_03So I think the best term that Jay was telling me about was uh treat it like a dating relationship, you know. Hey, did they lie on their profile or profile? You know, is he really that tall? You know, right. Is his eyes really that, you know, come on. That's funny.
SPEAKER_02Somebody wanted to know can you uh in your little computer wizard re can you revitalize their walk-in closet in their master bedroom?
SPEAKER_03Yes, I can. I mean, does that something you guys have done before? We do different things on it where we'll add cabinets, do drawers and stuff like that. We work on a special project for Jay right now where we're actually doing that second, you know, where we're trying to create a more uh uh functional space for someone and everything. But yeah, the nice thing is I use a 2020 CAD system, so I can actually do small parts of your house, bathrooms, kitchens, stuff like that. Or I can do a whole house. It's really neat program you can work with on it. Okay.
SPEAKER_00All right. I had the I had you guys over to my house on Monday.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_00So um, you know, I was like, Do you guys do power washing and stucco repair? Because it, you know, stucco repair is an art.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You really got to know what you're doing.
SPEAKER_00And I don't know who backed into my wall of my house.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you did an interesting dent there.
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_00Something h no, it wasn't me. It wasn't me. But there's some kind of dent.
SPEAKER_02If it's really low, it was Hermiata.
SPEAKER_00I don't know what happened. And so it's right in the front of the house. And and I don't know how we're gonna fix that, but you know, I have you guys on the case, and I'm like, you guys know a stucco guy.
SPEAKER_01We have a lot of contacts. Um, and we vet the same way we tell our customers to vet. Yeah. So, you know, we'll we talk to our our contractors and make sure they are good. Yeah. And they're they're they're they know what they're doing, yeah, exactly. And if somebody got okay, it does it does take an art, stucco's an art. Even power washing it. Tile's an art.
SPEAKER_00People don't think it is. Oh my gosh. I can put that. I can tell you nightmares of tiles.
SPEAKER_01Power washing is is important because you need to know what to use, where to spray, where not to spray it.
SPEAKER_02If somebody purchased their flooring from somewhere else but they wanted you guys to do it, is that something you can do? You know, that that interlocked stuff that that makes it look like you have a hardwood floor.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we we have in the past. Um it I can't guarantee they because uh a lot of those flooring, there's many different qualities. And Chris should actually Chris knows more of the other thing.
SPEAKER_03I mean, the one thing is about the flooring is you know, you can go to those Home Depot wherever and find a really good deal on a floor, but looking at it, you may not be constructed well and everything. There's certain brands that I like, it's not like I'm getting a kickback. It's stuff I've used over the years to know, hey, this is gonna last you a long time, this is gonna fit your needs. And uh, I mean, if a customer wants to purchase a four, perfectly fine, we'll install it and everything on it. But we don't uh our warranty would be on our labor, just not on the four itself.
SPEAKER_01The interlocking systems are very different, right?
SPEAKER_00Okay. But that's what you're you're um I guess come to expect when you use like a company like yours, a revive the hive, you're not only getting the labor, but you're also learning about what materials to do. Getting the education, definitely. Because um, you know, the way you're going to use the floor, and you know, do you have pets? You know, do you, you know, have you know, are you on a walker or a wheelchair? Like there are many considerate thresholds and getting in, getting out. There's so many different things.
SPEAKER_03Great examples right there because uh, you know, LVP is one of the biggest things still, as has been for the past few years.
SPEAKER_00So many versions of it.
SPEAKER_03Exactly, you know, and that's the one thing. When you have large pets, you know, some of these people have horses living in their house. You know, I don't know look at me. But you know, they sit there and they have these large animals, and that's where I come in and look at it, and they're like, Well, you know, I want to use uh this type of LVP here and everything. Well, do you really? Because with him right here, he may scratch it up real simple, you know, or if there's an accident, it may not hold up well, you know, and I give options or opinions, you know, I would probably look more at this line and everything else. It's a whole education piece because that's the one thing about my job is not so much of doing your project, but I want to educate you, make sure you get what you want that it's gonna last you for as long as we can and everything on it.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Well, one other thing with the vetting contractors is is you know, references. Call the references, if ask for references and call them. Actually, call them, don't just get them and talk to them. And then the follow-up with a contractor is there follow-up if there is an issue, are they gonna show back up? So you really want to stand by their work, have a relationship with that contractor.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, exactly. Especially because I don't, you know, like as someone who has, you know, uh this position that I have, you know, I want to make sure that all of the people we're promoting here as part of the show and we take on as sponsors are really tending to their clients. And you know, for other um companies that I've actually personally used as well, like I could stand by them. Yes. Um and it makes a huge difference that the it's the customer service. There's a great book called The Raving Fan. I don't know if you ever heard of it, but it's um I went to hear him speak. He's a he's a general contractor. And he wrote when the job is perfect, and that's not but when you when something goes wrong, it's inevitably something always does. The best customers that actually rave about the work is the one is the contractor that actually tends to the customer, fixes the problem. It's an opportunity to create a raving fan because sometimes things go wrong.
SPEAKER_02Yes, true.
SPEAKER_00But um, you know, and uh it's how you handle that customer service piece, like, oh wow, they they didn't just drop me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we we're not perfect. We've had those situations and w we will always go back and we will always fix it. And sometimes we've had to eat the cost, and that's part of doing business at times.
SPEAKER_00And and try being able to trust somebody like that in your heart.
SPEAKER_01Make it right by the customer. Yeah, that's like good policy.
SPEAKER_00All right, all right, gentlemen. We have Jason here and and Chris, the design manager. Uh, anything else you wanted to add before we go?
SPEAKER_01Just we love the show. Oh, yeah. Thank you for having us.

SPEAKER_00And they missed a bunch of emails, but now you're gonna be getting back to everybody.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for some reason they all went to junk and we're not sure why. Yeah, so um everybody can understand that it happens.
SPEAKER_00It happens to all of us. And so um, so if you did email uh revive the hive sc.com's uh email through there, uh don't worry, they'll they're on it now and they have the whole list.
