SPEAKER_02

Here comes the Liz Callaway show with next summer. Liz Callaway next summer. Picking up your wake up with news, opinion, and insight every weekday morning on Talk 94.5 106.7.

SPEAKER_08

It is 607 on the Liz Callaway Show with next summer. Welcome to our seven-year pitch days. Yes, it is May 26, 5626. What does that mean? Not now. Hey, you know what? I should look for that first post we made. I didn't think about doing that. Seven years ago today, we started this show.

SPEAKER_04

What does that mean?

SPEAKER_08

Um It means that seven years later, we're still here. I know. Doing the same thing. Hey, ready? Over and over and over again.

SPEAKER_04

I did things.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_08

I did nothing. I'm so sorry.

SPEAKER_04

No, that's that's all right. I've been I expect nothing less than nothing.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Happy anniversary. We made it seven years. Not bad for a show they said wouldn't last six weeks. Congratulations to Liz and Nick, Liz Callaway, and Nick Summer. We made it seven years. And counting.

SPEAKER_04

There you go.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, look at that.

SPEAKER_04

The whole thing. That is amazing. And I had to do some editing to cut out uh Wilma and Fred talking about things in between each key change in the uh song.

SPEAKER_08

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Happy anniversary. Seven years. Here we are.

SPEAKER_08

Happy anniversary, Nick.

SPEAKER_04

Uh-huh. You got me off my uh my ladder.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Pressure washing my house.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, that's the same old story.

SPEAKER_04

It's this it's because it's true.

SPEAKER_08

I saw, I remember looking you up and seeing a picture of you. Uh-huh. Um, and I do remember, I do remember asking you, I was like, you know, I want my theme song to be um Crazy Train. Crazy Train. Thank you.

SPEAKER_04

I I could only get crazy. As soon as you said it, oh, that's my kind of gal. That's my kind of gal.

SPEAKER_08

So I said, I wanted my song to be Crazy Train. And um then I I guess I found out that you had a band and you were in the band and you had a band a while ago. You know, like I was learning all these things, peeling you back like the onion you are. And then I remember finding on YouTube your band playing Crazy Train.

SPEAKER_04

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_08

That was so random.

SPEAKER_04

I know.

SPEAKER_08

I didn't go and look for it or anything. And somehow I found your band playing that song. Yeah. And I said, Oh my god, here you are playing the song. And so uh, yeah. So when we were um well, tell the story. Tell the story. You were you start you start the story because you were here with Ty.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I was here with uh Tide. It was just another, it was a decent station, much like our sister stationed down the hallway, uh playing adult contemporary is what it's called. I I affectionately refer to it as soccer mom music, but that's aimed a little soccer grandmom music. We were soccer mom music. I mean it was top 40, but without the rap and without the extreme kind of you know over-the-top stuff. So we were playing new stuff mixed with old stuff. It was just, it was kind of all over the place. But when I got here, that's the way it was. We tightened up the playlist and we got it to be, you know, a decent sounding station for what it was. None of it was my kind of music. But the problem was that we were a little weak in the power department. We didn't have the streaming, you know, like we do now, which really helps us and this show and this station. But it was just another one of those stations. We weren't standing out in the crowd. So I felt that way. John felt that way. Unbeknownst to me, he was going to make a change, which included you because you recently became available. I didn't know anything.

SPEAKER_08

The change wasn't going to happen without you. Yeah, the change wasn't happening, and then they found me.

SPEAKER_04

No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_08

He wanted, he thought about it.

SPEAKER_04

We had talks about what we were gonna do because it's like, nah, what do we do with this? We're just another, you know, and and I had built a nice little fun little thing, but it was, you know, small in comparison to you know some of the other stations that were playing similar music that had a bigger reach and had the years behind them. We were new, if you want to think about it that way. So I remember the Christmas party. This will be the year of the tide, said the owner. And then it was at the end of whatever month it was, probably March, I think. They said, Well, we hate doing this to you. We love you, but we're gonna go in a different direction. And they gave me two months. Severance, they were wonderful. The company is always I want to say March. Because in April, it was well, it wasn't just a couple weeks later, they called me and said, Yeah, do you want to come back? I'm like, for what?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, because they approached me um probably mid-March. And I didn't give them a decision until like uh later. I did not give them a decision until later.

SPEAKER_04

So I had really solidified something that I was doing uh in a different place, and my plan was to go back there and then I get the call from from John because I'd unbeknownst to me. He half jokingly said something. John is the general manager at the time. He's still with the company, but he's kind of doing a dual role thing. Anyway, uh he had half jokingly said I think we got him promoted. Maybe.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

In January, I remember he as I was leaving, because I would submit, you know, the things I was doing with the radio station as the program director and and the host of the morning show by myself, which was difficult, but I made it work, sorta. Uh he said, What do you think if we did a talk radio station? What would you think of that? After we just had a long conversation about what we were doing with the music and new plants, and I'm it was it caught me off guard and I thought he was joking. Well, yeah, right. Me doing talk, ha ha funny. He goes, uh, and he laughed, and that was the end of it. Then he likes to say, to this day, I offered it to you. True. Not really. He didn't sit me down and say, We're gonna make a change, probably. If we are, would you be on board? That was never if he would have said that to me, I would have said yes. So you would have? Yeah, I would have. Sure.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I at least I would have stuck around to help make the changes. And if it was something I couldn't do, I'd say, I gotta bow out. This isn't me. But I would have stuck around. Come on, I'm a new dad. I gotta be responsible, my family to think of. It's still radio. I still like radio. It's in, you know, you know as well as I do. Anyone who's ever been in radio, it's in your blood. You're stuck.

SPEAKER_07

Right.

SPEAKER_04

You know, it's just a thing. It's not about being the center of attention, it's just about being in control of, you know, in our case, what, 30,000, 40,000 watts? It's just it's interesting and it's fun. And it's a challenge. And this was a challenge.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So I had an interview at another station, interestingly enough.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And when John called me, I said, Well, give me the weekend. I gotta talk to my wife and I got, you know, something possibly brewing. I'll get back to you on Monday. And I remember you told me later you were mad.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, yeah, I was really mad. I was like, What do you mean he's gonna wait till Monday? Because we were starting the following weekend. You know, like uh this this uh we had nobody.

SPEAKER_04

We had one week to get this kind of put together. Right. Which you guys already laid the groundwork and had an idea of what you were doing, but you wanted me to come in and do what I do now, which is you know liners, producing, whatever.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_04

And I I remember too, at first I was not even supposed to be I wasn't really supposed to talk. I was gonna be the time and temperature guy.

SPEAKER_08

Yes.

SPEAKER_04

And little news tidbits, but you basically said Are you kidding me?

SPEAKER_08

Well, after we started, I was dragging you into conversation, right? And then it became more conversational. Naturally. And then I don't know when we actually changed it.

SPEAKER_04

You did.

SPEAKER_08

Well, I know I did, but I don't remember when we actually changed it.

SPEAKER_04

I probably could go with Nick Summers. I could probably go back on my liners that I would type up and see when I okay, the show started what year again? I didn't do math. 2019. 2019. So I'm guessing it was towards the end of 2019. Because I I bet you if I go back and look at the liners.

SPEAKER_08

No way. It was way sooner than that.

SPEAKER_04

Maybe. Oh, I don't know. It was way sooner than that. I don't remember.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But I I definitely I remember being warned, and it was funny because I tell I love telling the story. Because I I can tell you emphatically, that is so untrue. But they said, Oh, uh, uh, her, she's a problem.

SPEAKER_08

You know, everything from Well, that was my previous employer. I wasn't gonna mention it. They were butthurt.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_08

I I left there on good terms. I gave them two weeks' notice. They told me to leave in four days. Um I left there on February twenty eighth, twenty nineteen. I got uh uh hired at uh here. Um not until like the end of March. I think I had two weeks without a paycheck, which gave me a heart attack. Um and so that was kind of I had like two weeks between jobs because I had the Pelicans and I was working there right away in the beginning of March, and then like right after or around um the beginning of April, like before opening day, I gave them the news. They asked me to stay on as on field host.

SPEAKER_07

Right.

SPEAKER_08

Um, and and I did, I've told that story, and so I I said, Okay, I'll do both. And I told Henness, I'm like, I gotta do both. I'm committed. They're counting on me. The season has started, and so I s uh so we did this show for just three hours a day, and I was working till 10, 11 o'clock at night. It was crazy. It was really, really uh crazy summer. And met I met Javier because of this show.

SPEAKER_04

That's right. Because you guys are making out on our first uh kickoff party.

SPEAKER_08

Because make stuff up. I'm not making anything up. That is totally made up. Um so um so what happened was uh I met Javier because in one of the meetings we were doing advertising for uh yoga studio and I used to go there, but then I stopped going because I moved far away, but now I live closer and we're closer, and and they were like, Oh no, we're trading, you know, we're doing trade and you can be a member there free. And I was like, even better. So then I I went back in in hopes that you know Javier would be there, and sure enough, he was still there. Um and so that was five years after I had met him or for the first time.

SPEAKER_04

That's funny.

SPEAKER_08

Back in 2014, 2015, and uh you know, he was single, I was single. So then we that was the end of June, and then July, the launch party was like our first date.

SPEAKER_04

That's right.

SPEAKER_08

Which was like July twenty-seventh.

SPEAKER_04

That's right. Yes.

SPEAKER_08

So e the even though our launch party didn't happen when we actually launched the show, um, it happened at the end of July. It was a tremendous party. It was our biggest party ever. It's great.

SPEAKER_04

Till the band until the band started playing. You guys are too loud. And we were quiet.

SPEAKER_08

No, you might have been a little loud for that room.

SPEAKER_04

Consider considering normal, we were quiet.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, but I probably for that room, it was probably we're a rock band too much. At least that's what some people said. Yeah, oh and then we all told us they said lose our number, don't come back. I know. So we were at Inlet Affairs.

SPEAKER_04

Great place, great food, great people.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, they were like, Yeah, you guys are too much. Uh, we had a lot of people. I think our list was way over 250.

SPEAKER_04

It was huge.

SPEAKER_08

I don't even know where all those people came from.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know. A lot of them followed you over.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, but a lot of people didn't know I came here. I didn't know I was coming here.

SPEAKER_04

Me either.

SPEAKER_08

Well, I certainly want to thank all our sponsors that have been with us since day one. Um Grand Strand Law Group, Conway Ford. Yes. Um, let's see. Seaside? I think Mr. Sparky.

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

SPEAKER_08

Seaside furniture was with us from day one.

SPEAKER_04

Sure. It was close.

SPEAKER_08

I didn't have them at the other station. Two men, for sure.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Um they came with me from the other station. Um I don't think I met Revive the Hive until I got here.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think that was later.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Um some of our original people we lost, like Burger Fi, Crepe Creation Cafe. That's right. They came on early. Trying to think of who else was here early. You know, we had Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, we don't have them anymore. Um Who else was our some of our new advertiser uh when we first came on that actually literally followed me?

SPEAKER_04

I'd have to go look. Because you always put them in the little side window of our little sheet that we use each morning.

SPEAKER_08

I mean, we're pretty much following the very same format. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, minor tweaks. Most of the tweaks are you just don't know when to shut up, so we're late all the time. Whatever. Whatever.

SPEAKER_05

Whatever.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Seven years. And and just I think about all the things that have happened in my life in general in the last seven years.

SPEAKER_04

Holy smokes.

SPEAKER_08

But you've had two kids in seven years.

SPEAKER_04

Well, the one was born.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, but that's like within the seven-year mark. She was only like nine months old.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, she was only a few months old.

SPEAKER_08

So um he's using the city.

SPEAKER_04

She was six, yes, because I can't do math. Yeah, so I mean like six months old when they fired me.

SPEAKER_02

Brand new baby! Get out of here, dirtbag!

SPEAKER_04

No.

SPEAKER_08

So, uh company's been good to me.

SPEAKER_04

I can't complain.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, can you imagine this? I know I have a first post here somewhere, and I don't know how to find it. How do you find a first post? Easy.

SPEAKER_04

I'm so out of Facebook and they've changed so many times. I couldn't.

SPEAKER_08

I wanted to share our first post, and uh it's like they make it so difficult. Like, how do you look at this?

SPEAKER_04

This is really nice. And a lot of people are saying happy anniversary. Thank you. A lot of people saying yes, they followed you over from the uh last dunk.

SPEAKER_07

Cool.

SPEAKER_04

Um Chrissy said this is really nice. I know you guys like to thank your sponsors, but we'd like to thank you. You're my Myrtle Beach family. Keeping on my toes. Great shows, happy anniversary. How about that? That's really sweet.

SPEAKER_08

That's awesome. Yeah. Maybe tell us what you know, your memory or what we mean to your morning or when you started listening and all that. Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I want to I want to hear it on the uh the text line and we'll read some of it. I think we'll focus on most of that. I mean, we got some new stuff, but you know, it's the same old, same old.

SPEAKER_08

You know what? I only have two hours today. Oh, we better hurry up. Portable generator and do not have an interlocking kit. Truly consider it for the safety of everyone involved, including the utility workers. Find out more? Go to Mr. Sparky GS.com.

SPEAKER_01

Happy anniversary. We made it seven years. Not bad for a show they said wouldn't last six weeks. Congratulations to Liz and Nick, Liz Calloway, and Nick Summer. We made it seven years. And counting.

SPEAKER_06

Happy Annabas!

SPEAKER_08

I was just looking at Henness had posted on May 6th. Yeah. Um, which is our first day. And you know what? It says post unavailable. Wonder why.

SPEAKER_04

Is that when we were remember they took away our Facebook membership for a while? Yeah. How about this one? Listen, happy anniversary. Started listening August 2019 when I moved here from northern Illinois. Then I moved to Hong Kong. And I took you with me and I listened online.

SPEAKER_08

Listening all the way in Hong Kong. So he's the one in Hong Kong. We got that one guy in Hong Kong. I was wondering that.

SPEAKER_04

First time I met Liz was at Soho Cafe when she was doing a live uh podcast at the other station. Enjoy getting my day started with you two. Congratulations on seven years.

SPEAKER_08

You know, it's um when you're always going full speed and getting up super early and you just kind of, you know, trying to do everything, blah, blah, blah. You kind of lose sight and you you don't kind of stop or take the scenic route and look around, look out the window a while and see everything that you've been doing. But we have truly done a lot. And we've done a lot of community outreach, like a tremendous amount. Um, and we continue to do so. I mean, we created the Llama Lodge, which has been awesome. Um, and Conway Ford jumped on to sponsor it, which is great. We have other great companies that joined in time to time, like HTC is sponsoring tonight's event. We have beach landscaping doing the planting party. We've had first choice plumbing services do the uh, you know, feeding breakfast to the veterans, uh, treating them for breakfast. Um, we've had lots of uh wonderful things. I mean, we had great events at Burgafy, so many events at Burkefy. I wish they were still on with us. Uh I miss uh Larry over there at Burgafy.

SPEAKER_04

I remember the mask debate Mondays. You gotta say it slowly.

SPEAKER_08

Larry was the coolest, you know. And then of course marketing person was you can't do that.

SPEAKER_04

You can't do that. Larry's like, yeah, we can. Mask debate Mondays.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, they have actually a golf simulator now there.

SPEAKER_04

Really?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. You remember like that wall to the right?

SPEAKER_04

That's kind of like so they Is that where he had his motorcycle? Yes.

SPEAKER_08

They blocked it in and they made like kind of like a private little like seating area. It's kind of cool. We have a big announcement we're gonna be making at 7.20. We're involved in uh a major operation at Circle K. Oh! Yeah, so uh we're gonna be making that announcement at 720-ish. So we gotta stay on time, Nick, in the 7 o'clock hour. Really? That's not always up to me. Just saying. Just shut off my mic.

SPEAKER_04

Never.

SPEAKER_08

No matter what.

SPEAKER_04

Never.

SPEAKER_08

No matter what. No. No matter how it quiet my up. I just was testing.

SPEAKER_04

And I could see your your grin in your eyes, the sparkle in your eyes, turned to fire. I ain't never doing it again. That was just in jest. That's so funny. It's a reference to back in the day, if someone didn't like what you said or disagreed with you, they would just shut your mic off.

SPEAKER_08

Well, yeah. Well, it was. We've never done that to you. No, actually, my mic was shut off because I was right.

SPEAKER_04

Well, there's that.

SPEAKER_08

And and some uh people don't have maps and they don't know when they're wrong in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because they lack maps. We were just trying to be there pulling us. That's all you were doing. Oh my gosh. And you know what? I started radio when Obama was president. And when um what's that called?

SPEAKER_06

What?

SPEAKER_08

Um you know, the healthcare, what was that called? Obamacare. Obama.

SPEAKER_04

When that got launched it because AC A C A C A? Yeah. Affordable healthcare. Obamacare.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah. So I had a deal with Obama and I had to deal with Biden. You know, I didn't get TDS over it. I got revenge. I voted for Trump three times.

SPEAKER_04

This is what I mean. We're what you and me and everybody who listens, we're just built different. You know, we don't try to one extreme kill somebody because we disagree with them. Yes. Or you know, it's just uh all right, hey, guess what? Yeah. Gotta go.

SPEAKER_03

The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers.

SPEAKER_04

Your mic is still on, that's gonna be. You do all the time anyway.

SPEAKER_03

The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers.

SPEAKER_05

Thanks for waiting.

SPEAKER_04

It's the minions. The video's really funny because there's the one minion that keeps blowing that little noisemaker, and at the end he punches them. Right as he blew the noise maker, he's just a crack.

SPEAKER_08

I made a really nice post. I wrote seven years ago, we started a thing called the Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers. The rest is history or her story. I'm not a her. Me. I'm a her. Uh we have never looked back, just immersed ourselves in community service, news, and local events. It's been a wonderful ride. So glad that you all jumped on the crazy train with us. In quotes. I did post that by the way. I like that. Yeah, and it's a picture of me and you when we first started. And MAGA Dom was a huge part of it. That's right. He was a huge part of it. And I also shared the picture of him on there with us. Um, so it's uh, you know, it's been a community effort all along, you know. Um considering when I first started, I was the that was the first time I really kind of had my own show. I've never had my own show before.

SPEAKER_04

That's a huge responsibility. Why is it like when everyone's having a party, there's that one jerk in the corner? Why? Why?

SPEAKER_08

Huh? What?

SPEAKER_04

Uh what 99.9% of the texts are wonderful this morning. Thank you, everybody. Yeah. Uh seventh anniversary of me not having to yell at Liz's co-host.

SPEAKER_07

It's a good one, Leroy.

SPEAKER_04

Happy anniversary to you, right? Oh my goodness, that's wonderful.

SPEAKER_07

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_04

Uh let's see. What else do we have? Oh, this is great. A lot of these are really awesome textbooks.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, and I want to read them all. How can we do that? I'm sure there's a way to do it, but I'm not doing it while we're on the air. I can figure it out. No, we have to do it later. You know, it would be cool to Megadon.

SPEAKER_04

Happy anniversary to the three of us. Way to make it way to make it about you.

SPEAKER_08

Uh yeah, Megadon was there from the beginning, the very beginning. Even in the decision-making process.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, listen to this. Did I do it? Bob the Turf guy. Listen, I was a big Steve Porter fan at the other station when he passed away. I quit listening because I didn't care for the other guy. When Liz came on board, I'm just reading these texts as they come in. I saw an opportunity for a rebirth, but to no avail. I followed Liz over here to our station because I admired the way she handled herself in what was obviously a difficult situation. Look at that. Bob the Turf guy. There's so many great messages on here. And then there's that one guy that you know has to piss on our party. Uh where's Don been? I haven't heard. You gotta tune in every Friday. He's here talking. Uh I was here from the beginning, as you know. Happy anniversary. That's from Tim the Cardi Tail Guy.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, you were. I read Leroy Not Brown. Uh, let's see. This is a good one. Uh oh. This is great. Met Liz at the other station. I've been listening to you two since day one. The biggest uh this is from Rick Fairbluff.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Uh the biggest issue with the other station was TDS. Glad they pulled him off the air finally. And although they still talk, they've changed personalities and formats so many times since they since well, they said he says since they booted Liz. Now, Rick, Liz resigned. Yeah, nobody's gonna be.

SPEAKER_08

I don't think I've ever been fired.

SPEAKER_04

Uh no, I've been let go because of format changes, but that's normal in radio. I've never let's see. I need my Liz and Nick while riding the property, says Rick. That's great. Uh let's see. What uh oh, look at this one. Dr. A. Happy anniversary, guys. Love the Flintstones. So he was listening earlier. It's been a long time I've been a long time listener from Liz's days at the other station. Related to her accent immediately. You and Nick. What accent? Yeah, right. You and Nick have one hump. Uh you and Nick have been a fantastic team. Uh, used to go to as many events as I could when you guys started out, Trump rallies, fundraisers, etc. It's difficult these days. Always appreciated the one very unique thing about your show. You give the community a voice. That's true. The text line is truly original, and it's really something both entertaining and informative. Yes, and also a pain in the ass. But we love it. Uh you have the quality and professionalism which ranks with other top radio shows I've ever heard. Wow. Nick is a bored wizard. Well, thank you. Uh, will you still remember us when you go worldwide? Happy, amazing seven years. Worldwide. Bless you both. Look at that. There's really some great ones in here. Happy anniversary. Uh, I knew Liz, left the other station for the Pelicans job. I was uh I was in my car changing radio stations. I heard her voice on this station. Thanks for keeping us informed. That's Tammy. Christian, conservative, and quirky, but most of all, I love what you do for our veterans. Happy seventh. Lisa from Massachusetts. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_08

You know, I just remembered um when I was at the Pelicans ballpark, I met I think Bob Collins. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Good guy.

SPEAKER_08

I met Bob Collins, and he used to work here, but he wasn't really anymore, or something like that. And he had a friend in radio that was from like Jersey or something that was moving here, and I met that guy, and I exchanged numbers with him for some reason. I don't recall why. Um, but I contacted him and asked him if he would be my Nick. Um before there was a Nick. Before there was a Nick. I do remember doing that, and when he said, I'm not ready to move down, I then asked Bob Collins because Bob Collins was retired. He retired from here, so I didn't I didn't ask him first. So then we brought in Bob Collins and we met upstairs in the conference room when the table was in the other direction, and I Head said, uh Bob Collins asked, What is the show about? And I I went on a dissertation on what I became so hyper-focused on what I was gonna make the show about, which is basically what it is now. Uh Bob said, I'm out. I don't have the energy for this. He's like, No, no, I can't start something new or something like that. And and so and Hedis goes, See why I hired her? I remember that. Um, but yeah, I mean my vision for the station, uh, or at least for the show, we were the only live show at the time, now we have Grand Strand Live at 3 p.m. That's true. But my vision for the show was to serve the community because when I was at the other station and not only that station, but so many other stations in New York, I was all over the place there, you know, radio station hopping. Uh I realized the power of radio. Radio is very powerful because you're speaking to each person individually. You're not standing in front of a stadium of ten thousand people. You're speaking to each person individually, and you can have a great impact on, you know, um knowledge and in vet, you know, talking to people about what things they should know about and getting it right. You know, uh God forbid, you know, we have another emergency situation around here. People need accurate, fast information. So all of that becomes uh a huge responsibility. And you know, it's not like a podcast where you could just go on and say whatever you want. You could say naughty words, you can say mostly anything you want. Um when you have a radio show, the level of responsibility and the bar is set so high in disseminating information correctly, accurately, and as fast as you can. And communicating it in a way where, you know, it's you're communicating it uh in a way that people can understand it. You know, you have to be able to absorb the information, decipher it, and then disseminate it in a in a cohesive way. I mean, you know, you can't be all over the place. So it really is a huge responsibility that I don't I think you and I take it very seriously, uh, especially when we're trying to get stuff right about news.

SPEAKER_04

And it's getting increasingly more and more difficult every day because of, you know, AI and fake news, and I mean real fake news. So we've got to be super careful. And if we ever get it wrong, I mean we've gotten burned. Yeah, we've gotten burned for I'll be the first to admit it. It's like, ah, dang it, we got burned on that. You know, sorry. People don't realize that we're just me and you. We don't have a staff of writers, we don't have a staff of researchers like Glenn. Glenn's got a staff. Oh, they all do. Of course they do. Yeah, you know, and and that frees up. We're also making millions and well, yeah, and that frees up them to be creative. You know, they can just go, oh, I have an idea for this. Hey, you minion number one, two, and three, go make that happen. You and I are like, oh, we have an idea.

SPEAKER_08

Right.

SPEAKER_04

You and I have an idea, but then we gotta see every step of the way through. Right.

SPEAKER_08

Not crying about it. But the person the person absorbing the information that, you know, their workers have compiled for them. And I used to be a morning show producer. I had that job. Um, for the biggest station on Long Island, which is a huge market. I would I would work at 11 at night. I did an all request show until 1 a.m. And then from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m., 5 a.m., I was gathering information the old fashioned way. Going through newspapers. Um we didn't have like the internet. We didn't have the internet.

SPEAKER_04

You were hanging around waiting for Don to invent it.

SPEAKER_08

Well, you know, I would have a pile of newspapers and try and pull out the most important stories of the day. And that morning show started at 5 a.m. Um, and then I'd have to write up all the stories and make sure they had the clippings, and you know, it was a it was much more difficult and limited. Now we get news 24-7 immediate sometimes, like hey, this is happening right now, sometimes too fast. Yeah, sometimes it's not totally, you know, something's happening, but we may not be getting it totally right just yet because the information's coming out in drips and drabs.

SPEAKER_04

The Bandino rule applies, especially nowadays, 48 hours. Wait till things shake out because you never know.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. So, um, yeah, so it's it's been, you know, I mean, I'm trying to think of how many stations I've worked at. One, two, three. I've worked at three on Long Island, three on Long Island, and two here. So five total.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I was never a station hopper either. I'm a I'm a very loyal person. You give me an opportunity, I'm gonna work my butt off, I'm gonna do the best I can, you know, until obviously there's a format change. That's generally the only time station gets sold or a format change. This is the only time I've ever been let go.

SPEAKER_08

It's funny that my first station was a classic rock station. Isn't that funny? And I did news at a clip classic rock station.

SPEAKER_04

Well, back then we had news.

SPEAKER_08

I know, isn't that funny?

SPEAKER_04

Every format had news.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So I didn't work at that many stations either, really. Yeah. In my whole entire career, not that many.

SPEAKER_08

The music business is very difficult.

SPEAKER_04

Two here, that's it.

SPEAKER_08

I would say like people in the news industry tend to stick around a little longer. Would you say that? It seems like the music people, the music jocks. Well, you age out. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

You know, there's nothing. I'm sorry if you're doing this. I apologize for anybody listening, which I doubt you are because you're already at work. But if you're 50, 60 years old and you're talking about today's music to 15 to 25 year olds, eh. It doesn't fly.

SPEAKER_08

By the way, did you hear about WKRP? What? Oh my gosh, I gotta tell you this story when we come back.

SPEAKER_07

I love that show.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.
