Hooves, Hats, and Hearts made possible by Winslow Law
The Liz Callaway Show with Nick Summers, bringing you the voices that make you think right now on Talk 94.5.
SPEAKER_02And we have an old friend of the show, Tom Winslow of Winslow Law. Good morning, sir.
SPEAKER_01Morning. Very old. Very old. Not that old. Well, not as old as you, but still old. What? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So everybody's talking about the Kentucky Derby. I actually have a Derby hat now. Because I recently went to an event. I've seen it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm getting my hair done. Nick and I are getting our hair done for the event.
SPEAKER_02Look at that. Well, that's the beauty of having a hat. You don't have to worry about hair. Right, Nick?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right?
SPEAKER_02I actually won best hat. Did you not? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She actually looked really good. She said she always looks good, Nick.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So, um, in honor of the Kentucky Derby, uh, you are having a party.
SPEAKER_01We are. It's our third annual Hooves, Hats, and Hearts. We do it, as I said, for the third straight year to support our community, to bring everybody together for an event that isn't overly celebrated in our area, right? So many people celebrate Christmas and they celebrate, as they should, Easter and they celebrate these great holidays, but Kentucky Derby kind of gets overlooked in our area. But it shouldn't. It's a great time to get together and to use it to support our community. And that's what we're doing at Voodoo Brewery on Saturday from four to seven.
SPEAKER_02And it's a great reason to dress up. Great reason to dress up. I'm all about that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and we have this contest too, right? We have the hat contest, we have the dress-up contest. It's an absolutely free event, ladies and gentlemen. Come on out. Oh, look out. See, look how good y'all look, man. Look at that. Oh, let me see. Are you showing the picture? He's showing the picture to me.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes. Yes. Patty and I.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so last year we did it last year at Tidal Creek, and we had about 500 people out there. Great event. Everybody showed up, had a good time. This year we're doing it at Voodoo Brewery. They've agreed to donate some of their proceeds from the sales. We've got contests. We've got, as I said, hat contests, dressing contests. We're going to some horse races out there for the ladies and gentlemen. All this to raise funds for helping hands here in our community who do great work in our community.
SPEAKER_02The same place where we're doing our anniversary parties.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Todd and those guys are all about the community.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. So Voodoo Brew Pop, he's a veteran as well. It's at Broadway at the Beach. Admission is free. But of course, there will be uh Derby-inspired games that you want to maybe buy your way into. That's right.
SPEAKER_01Buy your way into it, buy your way into the contest. And like if nothing else, come out and get to know who they are, right? How can you support them going through the year, right? Get a little name recognition and appreciation for what they do as well. And such an opportunity, as I said, for us to come together just as community for a free event. A free event down at Broadway at the beach, Voodoo Brewery, four to seven this Saturday. Look, rain or shine. There's an inside area to it, there's an outside area to it. If it's raining, who cares? We'll be inside. Or maybe we'll be outside. Who cares? Let's have some fun.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. Maybe mud wrestling. Mud wrestling.
SPEAKER_01I was actually looking, I was like, what happens at the Kentucky Derby if it rains and it's raining shine? So guess what? Our event is rain or shine. Absolutely race will be had.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. And helping hand, um, how did you get uh interested in helping helping hand?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I know Tracy over at Helping Hands. Actually, there's a Helping Hands in Georgetown and a Myrtle Beach. I know both of those groups, and we help both of those groups out. Okay you know, and it's our job at Winslow Law.
SPEAKER_02So you're in Pauley's Island.
SPEAKER_01Pauli's Island, and we do a lot of work up here in Ory County too, right? And it's our job at Winslow Law to serve the community, right? That's what lawyers should do, is serve the community. And and all these groups that serve, we have to give back, right? Those that are blessed should give back to those that have needs. And that's what Helping Hands does. That's what we want to do at Winslow Law, and that's why we came together to try to make this their event this year and to really serve them as they serve the community.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, actually, the last couple of years we've been doing a food drive for them. And Nick, if you look to the poster board there, we just got a thank you card from them.
SPEAKER_00Wow.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, very nice thank you card from Tracy because um we you know, we see how much they do because they just don't only provide food.
SPEAKER_01I don't know.
SPEAKER_02They do um a lot of things.
SPEAKER_01Housing assistance, right? Counseling. We have so many people in our community that are are blessed and that need blessings. Right? And and and they do that, they step up in those needs, they need help in hand. Right, and I and I truly believe that you know for us that are blessed, like that one's all how we're blessed, we need to get back. We need to give those to those people that need that help because they need to get to where we are. We need to help them get there. And that's what Tracy and her team do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, I just found like this community is so generous. They really are. Um, you know, there's you know, a fire, a house fire, or someone is ill, or it just the whole community gets together. I mean, I've never been part of like a like live in a place where like the whole community. Yeah. It's so amazing.
SPEAKER_01So I view it this way. Like, we all live in a place that people want to come to. Yeah. Right? We all want to retire here, we all want to visit here, we want to tourism here, right? Why not enjoy those blessings and bestow those upon others? Yeah. Unlike in places that they don't want to be there. Yeah. Right? Like, let's come here and help each other out and enjoy the blessings we have and share those blessings with others.
SPEAKER_00You know what's so wonderful about this area, too. You are you, Nick? No, it doesn't take a lot of convincing. You just show someone that there's a need, and people stand up before even being asked, how can I help?
SPEAKER_01No, that's right. You be people post on Facebook, right? A house fire on Facebook or something. They're like, all right, what do you need? Right? I mean, that's what I mean. Like it's just what a great community to be a part of. And hopefully people understand that. And honestly, I think that's why a lot of people want to come here, right? We are truly.
SPEAKER_02I'm here 13 years ago.
SPEAKER_01Currently we're closed, but okay. I mean, I'm I'm wide open to anybody that wants to come here and come here and not bring what they're coming from. Right?
SPEAKER_02Add to the add to the blessings.
SPEAKER_01Add to the blessings. There you go.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. Now, you guys do a lot of different things for the community at Winslow Law. Um name some of them that you've just uh absolutely yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I mean we do our annual Lucky Duck contest, right? We just we just got that done. We had prizes hidden all over the community. We had 90,000 participants. It was a great event.
SPEAKER_02I can't believe you had 90,000. It was great.
SPEAKER_01It's only second year doing it. We had 20 businesses get involved in it, gave way over$5,000 in prizes to people with the city.
SPEAKER_02What is it, a scavenger hunt?
SPEAKER_01Scavenger hunt. We had these little ducks. You know our logo is a bird. So I had these little ducks around the community. We had Gringo Ninja get involved, HTC was involved, Bull Nose was involved, A Nation was involved, on and on and on. All of these groups got involved in it. I mean, I can't wait till next year, right? Like, I mean, it's only our second year doing it. Like, have some fun. But that's that's who we are. Like, you know, so many attorneys that as you see have these commercials and these billboards, and I'm always saying, why are you doing business with a billboard and not with a neighbor? Right? Like, let us serve you. That's true, too. And let us be with you. Yeah. And let's be a part of the community with you instead of instead of just saying, give me your money, right? That's because that's what billboards do. Give me your money. Right. I want to be there next to you in the community, making the community better. And so that's who we are. That's that's our that's our branding, that's our marketing. So, what happens?
SPEAKER_02Uh do you have any other events that you'd like to do?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, well, I'll throw this out there. It's not for a while, but we do our annual community friends giving, right? And we have a meal. We've done that for about five years. When we always have 500, 600 people come for a meal.
SPEAKER_02That's amazing.
SPEAKER_01And we take donations and the very next day, last year we fed about 100, 150 families the next day with donations that were given to us, and we get supplied turkeys for it. And so we give them away the next day, right? And so we always try to find events. So, guys, if you know of events out there that are great or even have ideas for events that aren't out there and want someone to partner with you in the community, Winslow Law would love to do that. 843-357-9301. Let me know. I'm happy to step up and do it. But this Saturday, Kentucky Derby, baby.
SPEAKER_02All right, this sounds like a very fun event. Um, Saturday, May 2nd, 4 to 7 p.m. This Saturday at the Voodoo Brew Pub, right by Broadway at the beach. Bring some food items.
SPEAKER_01Bring food items, bring money, bring yourself, come dressed to impress.
SPEAKER_02All right, prizes are there to be won, and games are going to be played. Derby inspired. Thank you so much. What's your website?
SPEAKER_01Tom Winslow is the name. The website is Winslow Lawyers.com.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and I did post a link to this flyer on our Facebook page. It's called Hooves, Hats and Hearts, Kentucky Derby Party, brought to you by Winslow Law, Voodoo Brewpub for helping hands.
SPEAKER_01Thank you so much. Thank you. Appreciate y'all helping out.
